it'd have been 1.7 billion had they not lost the last lockout. of course they'll want to win the next one to make back their losses

here's a crazy idea: maybe the owners don't deserve to keep 51% of something they have no hand in producing

So are you saying players are underpaid?

players and people who work for nba franchises yeah. and workers in general under capitalism lol

Yup, the owners do nothing...
The owners' investment was necessary to get the league started in the first place, but what do the owners do that is necessary for the league to continue operating?

they don't. they hire gm's who run trades and personnel, hire managers who hire workers who do the work of organizing and promoting the league. the owner would make the same money if they spent their days micromanaging their team chasing deep prospects in slovakia or jerking off

Yeah, because workers have always done so great under non-capitalist systems. Just ask the very wealthy workers of Venezuela, North Korea or those guys who built the Belomorkanal and were part of the Great Leap Forward.

there's always going to be pasty old rich men that want to own a basketball team.

what would happen if the 30 owners quit versus every player in the league?

30 new owners would be found immediately, 300 some basketball playing scabs could be brought in, but who's gonna watch that

players have 99% of the leverage.

Not true that you can just find 30 owners. Many of these guys accumulated wealth their own way, and it's not easy to find guys that rich.

The players also can't afford a work stoppage. If the union strikes, scabs can be brought in. If ownership strikes, no league.

This concept is heresy to Americans. Its not surprising considering the country was founded on slavery/ownership.

If scabs were brought in the league would completely collapse and the owners would lose all their investment. If ownership struck new investors could create a different league and takeover the massive American market for professional basketball by hiring the players that went on strike or the NBA could just find new owners. The players could also go play for European leagues if they wanted. The players don't need the owners to make millions of dollars playing basketball, but the owners absolutely need the players to make their billions for simply having an ownership right over half the profits of the league.

whats really crazy is that none of these are superstars...drummond is probably the best player and he's not even top 20 in the league. In fact, if you put all of those players on one team I still don't think they beat the warriors or cavaliers in a playoff series.

if there was no salary cap or max deal a player like LeBron might get 70 million a season from a big market. I would actually prefer that than some trash like mozgov getting 64 mill

there are leagues all over the world that will pay them millions of dollars. let's be real.
