I will say though that Conley's deal worries me. Dude is already 28 and Memphis might need to rebuild in a year or two anyway :-?

what do you think Turner should have gone for under the old cap?... 8 mil?... 10 mil?

Noah and the Knicks have not reached an agreement yet. As far as I can tell, the numbers leaked so far have all come from Noah's agent.

Just checked again--only thing I can find new is an ESPN report by Broussard (aka the man of many sauces) repeating rumors from two days ago

The one thing I can say about Evan Turner is that there must have been a spark somebody saw at some point to deem him a top lottery pick, and that's the only thing about the deal I pray on.

I'm going to have to go with Parsons. He's more like a 3rd or 4th option on a contender, but getting paid like a superstar.

When making contract analysis.

I've heard this argument throughout the day today about "Well, you have to consider with the cap going up that this equals the contract of Player X".
In a vacuum, yes, salary needs to measured as a percentage of the cap. But what people are failing to comprehend is that the salary boom was projected over a year ago. Meaning, the contracts players signed last year were signed knowing the Cap was going to exceed 90M this year and about 108M next year.

However, this year's FA can only point to the cap going from 94M to 110M next year, but then it flattens in the 112-115M range.

You cant say "Well, the cap went up by 33%, so contracts should as well". The cap is only going up 17% next year and then another 5% after that. That is the difference from last year... You cant overpay now with the assumption of a continued boom

$8 mil max. I don't think he's considerably better than a guy like Livingston who got the MLE I believe. Percentage-wise he'll be making nearly double what Livingston did per year.

Overall I don't think it's a horrible deal but definitely an overpay.

I'm shocked that Evan Turner isn't running away with this thing. 18 million per for a guy who shouldn't be a starter on any good team?
Mozgov and Noah can be explained away as Centers always get over-payed. But who actively seeks out Evan Turner after watching him play?

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

See I'd argue probably about 10 mil... I agree that he's not a ton better than Livingston... but I do believe he is better, and appreciably younger. I'd say 8 mil would be a great deal for Turner under the old cap, with the year he just had, 10 mil would probably be fair. Blazers overpaid and gave 12 mil. The circumstances in which Livingston was signed were also far different, which needs to be taken into account. Livingston had a good year with Brooklyn the prior year to his signing, but his health was still a major concern as the guy had only been on the court over 60 games twice in the last 7 years at that point. I agree it was an overpay, but how much of an overpay is definitely an open debate IMO.

I just saw the conley contract. That blew my mind. These contracts are just insane. Signs of the end of times.

It was an overpay, but Turner per synergy is one of the best P&R defenders, and off-ball defenders in the league. He's also a solid offensive player who doesn't shoot with great range, but is an excellent playmaker. The Conley deal is far more egregious in my view, not just because of the actual dollar amount... but because he's getting a high paying veteran max, which he isn't worth under any cap situation.

Add in Parsons, who averages 14-15 pts a game, he's always hurt and has a fantastic agent. He should buy his agent a 20 million dollar mansion.

But yea, signing Cavs' 3rd string big to a 16 mils a year contract is bad, Noah who barely played the last 2 years to 70 million dollar contract is crap, too... How's Noah better than Robin Lopez, who's at 12 mils a year?

Solomon Hill. Parsons, Noah, Turner and others have been overpaid but they'll make a definitive impact on their new teams. Hill won't, even in this environment he's a $5-6 million player.

You guys are underestimating DeRozan and especially Bradley Beal's contract. Beal is basically always injured and very, very inconsistant in his performance.

Conley went from making 9 million a year to 30 million a year. That's just insanity to me. That's megastar money.

The biggest impact Evan Turner has ever made was when he bounced his head off Lance's fist.

Don't get me wrong, as a Sixers fan I'm salty he was taken 2nd but he's trash. I think Stinky drove his butt to the airport when he traded him just to make sure he actually left.

Ummm... Turner played really well with the Celts and won them quite a few games. He's not a franchise player, but he's a better player than he was with the 76ers.
