Wizards Summer League 2016

Post#1 » by W. Unseld » Wed Jun 29, 2016 9:00 pm

I didn't see a thread, feel free to merge if there is one. First game is apparently July 11:

And per the Wiz official NBA site there is an open practice at the V center on July 6th. I can't find a Wiz summer league roster anywhere but apparently Aaron White is our best player going not on the current actual Wiz roster:

Are any of the "young" core still young enough to qualify? That young core is starting to get gray hair.

Right now we have:
Aaron White
Kelly Oubre
Jarrell Eddie
Sheldon McClellan
Daniel Ochefu
Danuel House
Sterling Gibbs
Kaleb Tarczewski
Alex Tyus
James Southerland
Jaleel Roberts
Shawn Dawson

seems to be lacking a point guard other than Gibbs

What's the story on Southerland? I seem to remember someone (CCJ?) talking about him last year.

Watched him at Syracuse and never thought he was an NBA player, though he does have a 7-1 wingspan at 6-8, 220

Shawn Dawson is interesting but the problem is as like normal with the wizards we have way too many wings, the summer league team has no real PG who can play. and only about 3 bigs who are worth a damn. White is the best big on the team, Ochefu and Tarczewski are the only too bigs with optentail, Tyus and Southerland are uninteresting retreads, and Roberts is horrible! Did I mention that we have not point guard. Gibbs is terrible. if we are going for a balanced team we should bring in two more real PG's and another center. IDK if they are playing for summer league teams yet or not but, David Stockton, Xavir Munford, Tu Holloway, WIll Cummings, and Quinn Cook would be nice pick ups.

I like Tarczewski and mentioned him a couple years ago. Reminds me of Gortat, can definitely see him make the team as 3rd Center.

Long-time Syracuse b-ball fan here, and James Southerland was an intriguing college player. His hallmark was his 3-point shooting, but if anyone decided to pressure him, he was capable of putting the ball on the floor and motoring right around them. No mid-range: he was either shooting a 3 or driving hard to the basket. Threw down some hard dunks running the floor for very athletic Syracuse teams.

That having been said, he's coming out of the 2-3, so I don't know about his individual defense, and his game always seemed like something that wouldn't translate to the NBA. He'd no longer be quicker than most others, so he'd be reduced to solely a spot-up 3-point shooter.

An example of his casual athleticism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JyzDB_M1o0

A sad SL roster, I'd say. Too bad....

But -- I'm definitely interested in McClellan. He's a great shooter. Want him to make the team.

I don't think it's sad we just need PG's, we have a couple of solid young bigs and we have wings for days.

I like to see guys on the SL team that might make the team. I guess you cd add Ochefu to that group. For the rest, guys like Tyus, Roberts, House, Gibbs....?

Maybe I'm being too critical -- ok... I take it back. Not sad.

Yeah, last year's SL squad was beyond horrible. I think this year will be at least competitive. I'm curious to see if Aaron White has improved. Oubre should play for 3-4 games, assuming he does well. They need to see more of the other wings like McClellan, House, Southerland and the bigs like Ochefu and KT.

Having the inability to read over a typo or two seems like a you problem not a me problem. I am normally pretty decent at catching them, but typos are mistakes, they do not mean the person making them is stupid or unintelligent. I see a few people here downing other people for making a few typos! Sorry for the rant but it has always bothered me that a few people will stop cold in the middle of a conversation to point out or pick apart a typo or a couple of honest mistakes that people make. I post for fun, to relax, am not going to proofread a post to death. I am probably in the minority here with this opinion so, excuse me for getting off topic.

Dude get the hell outta here. That was a harmless jibe on a pretty funny typo. You make typos on almost every post and I've never complained about it. If you can't take a joke, spend more time using spellcheck than writing that BS you just posted.

I'll be looking to see how Jameel Warney does for Dallas' SL team. He's just signed with their SL team and remains a UFA as far as everything else, so nothing's stopping the Wiz from signing him.

Is it really that hard to find a PG who can play in Summer League?

My God, this organization is lazy.
