JP Disses Burnett

Post#1 » by jalenrose#5 » Thu Jul 5, 2007 8:11 pm

Blue Jays' general manager J.P. Ricciardi had harsh words for often-injured starter A.J. Burnett on a Toronto radio station, saying that Burnett may now be considered a third or fourth starter, and if he had to do it all over again, he probably would not have signed Burnett to a five-year $55 million deal in December, 2005.

I say good on JP, maybe this might light a fire under Burnett's rear end. If not, I expect Burnett to be dealt.

On one hand, I like that JP is trying to spark his pitcher.
On the other hand, JP is a douche.
I'd rather see Ricciardi get fired before dealing Burnett.

Fire Ricciardi.

I let him slide from 2002-04 due to his financial limitations at the time, but with the last three years of mediocre results and even worse quotes in the media, he has no support from me.

I echo MB's statements. I also wouldnt hate him nearly as much if he kept his big beak shut.

Michael Bradley wins again.

I second these thoughts and would volunteer to drive the car carrying Ricciardi out of town.

JP alienates everyone, it's his MO... this team will suffer until he's gone.

JP is under contract till 2010 so if he gets canned, one of two things will have to also happen:

1. Paul Godfrey will have to admit he's wrong (not likely).
2. Paul Godfrey will have to be let go as well (not likely).

IIRC, Godfrey signed Ash to a 3-year deal in 2000, then fired him one year later, so he might admit a mistake. Although Godfrey seems to genuflect in Ricciardi's presence, so I don't think it will be that easy this time around.

This is a double edged sword

JP had reason to try lighting a fire under AJ's ass but the way he did it....not right
