Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
in case people were wondering where the Blazers cap situation is now I know I was)...
guaranteed salary:
Damian Lillard $24,381,225
Evan Turner $16,400,000
Al-Farouq Aminu $7,680,965
Ed Davis $6,666,667
C.J. McCollum $3,219,579
Noah Vonleh $2,751,360
Mason Plumlee $2,328,530
Anderson Varejao (stretched) $1,984,005
Cliff Alexander $874,636
Pat Connaughton $874,636
3 Roster Charges $1,630,413
68.79 million
so, with a 94 million salary cap, the Blazers could still have 25.2 million in cap-space if they renounced all their free agents and eliminated their cap-holds
(Blazers could also sign Layman right now to a minimum deal and eliminate a roster charge, leaving their cap-space unchanged)
speaking of the cap-holds (no need to count Kaman & Roberts):
Gerald Henderson $9,000,000
Meyers Leonard $7,689,700
Mo Harkless $7,235,148
Allen Crabbe $2,725,003
after signing Turner, I'm inclined to think that Henderson is gone unless something weird happens with both Crabbe and Harkless. No point in counting his cap-hold at this time, especially with the news Blazers made an "aggressive offer" to Pau Gasol
anyway:
* if Blazers renounce all but Crabbe, they have about 22.3 million in space
* If Blazers renounce all but Harkless they have about 17.9 million in space
* If Blazers renounce all but Meyers they have about 17.5 million in space
* If Blazers keep Harkless & Crabbe they have about 15.2 million in space
* If Blazers keep Harkless & Meyers they have about 10.3 million in space
* If Blazers keep Meyers & Crabbe they have about 14.8 million in space
who is the most likely renouncement of the 3 RFA's?...I don't know. It does seem that if the Blazers are going hard at Pau Gasol that Meyers might be renounced. A C/PF group of Gasol-Plumlee-Davis-Vonleh-Aminu-Meyers seems awfully crowded. Of course, there might be a trade in the works
Obviously, offer sheets could become the determining factor. If Crabbe gets an offer sheet of 17.5 million/year like Turner and Harkless gets one for 10 million a year, there seems a pretty easy call there. I have no clue what kind of offer sheet, if any, Meyers may get
one thing that could monkey-wrench what is now plan C for Portland is if Meyers accepts his QO before Portland renounces it. That 4.2 million could have an impact
I'm guessing there is already a bit of sticker-shock fatigue setting into NBA front-offices after yesterday. Portland isn't the only team that had to pivot to plan C or worse. So maybe, there will be a little more restraint with some of the remaining deals and some bargains can be had in the 3rd tier free agents which appear to be the best Portland can hope for anyway
And of course, trades could alter the landscape. Portland could trade Ed Davis for a draft pick, offer Al Horford about 21-22 million a year, and still keep Harkless and Crabbe. Doubtful Horford signs with Portland for that little though, not unless Portland has a thriving Dominican community I don't know about
finally, if Portland does use all their cap-space, and that would be pretty easy to do, they'd then have the room-MLE of 2.9 million to add a player if they wanted

Man, Gm's have to be really quick with the numbers right now and I imagine the smart ones have a capologist by their side to do the detailed number crunching as fast as possible to keep up with the free agent frenzy.
Are we ready for round two today? We took a few serious blows from rejection but we're still in the fight.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
you know if we miss out on gasol. other potential veteran big men we could look at are luis scola, brandon bass, or david lee. all could probably be got for a reasonable price. what do you guys think? if worst came to worst & we were desperate for a veteran big man josh smith, amare stoudemire, nene, or david west could be options also.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
if the wiz sign horford does that mean gortat could be got? i think a 3rd team would be needed but i like gortat. maybe something like this.
portland gets gortat
sacramento gets aminu, plumlee, & morris
washington gets WCS, mclemore , & gay

Sixers reportedly about to sign Crabbe. 4yrs/50mil. Gotta think Portland probably matches that. Tad higher than I'd like, but well below the 15-17 mil range we had been hearing.

12.5 per? I can live with that. Though, maybe they'll agree to a S&T for Noel before the can officially sign him on the 6th

4/50 seems fair to me. With how we were hearing huge numbers I'm quite happy with that amount

Almost as soon as the Sixers beat writer posted that rumor, he tweeted a new one from a source that told him they aren't going to offer that.... yet. At least we're finally seeing some potential numbers.

Horford hasn't signed yet. If we don't get a top-tier big man, there are many veteran short term options.

Getting Pau Gasol would be cool, however I hope the team reaches out to Cole Aldrich too. Then perhaps trade Plumlee or Davis for another wing or backup pg.

I wonder what it would take to pry Ariza out of Houston with that roster looking pretty thin now. Perhaps a s&t of crabbe + plumlee for Ariza + filler would have them listening? That would fill two positions and at this point they look to be in dire need of a center
Ariza can play 3 positions and perhaps even center against small ball teams like gs, that versatility would be huge. 2 seasons left on a reasonable deal is an added plus

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
I really didn't realize just how good Gasol's numbers were last year. 16.5pts/11rebs and 4 assists. His game is aging really well. Shocked to hear from all reports that the Blazers are basically still neck and neck with him against the Spurs.
It's a really strange roster if Portland does get him and keeps their RFAs. I'm assuming Harkless is gone but Crabbe (matched) and Meyers (takes QO) stay.
Lillard/vetmin
CJ/Crabbe
Turner/Vonleh
Aminu/Meyers
Gasol/Davis/Plumlee
Actually, maybe Olshey's plan is to have Gasol as a mentor for Meyers?
Man, looking at the depth chart, if Gasol is signed, there's a bit of a logjam there in the frontcourt... Maybe they move Aminu out of his PF spot and backing up Turner?

What do you guys see Harkless getting offered? Do you think Portland would match 4/40?

There has to be a trade in the works if Olshey does manage to land pau gasol, or Meyers is just gone

My gut says yes but 12 mil and up and we'd let him go

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
Philly holding back on an offer sheet doesn't mean that they don't want to pay Crabbe...
If Philly really wants Crabbe, they might be trying to work out a sign and trade with the Blazers - or a side deal which includes an agreement that Portland won't match on an offer sheet.

S&T Crabbe, Vonleh for Noel. I'll even give up the Cleveland pick. Do it. Do it now.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Noel or Okafor, Sixers choice.
