We should consider D Wade...

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Sat Jul 2, 2016 1:08 pm

I know what most people are going to think. Wade is too old, would be too pricey, and doesn't fit with our core. But, he's a champion and an all-time great player who still commands the respect of the officials. Harris and Morris can both play PF, and last year Morris even wanted to play more at PF. There is no better 3 point shooting option at the 4 spot than simply shifting their minutes there. Let Wade and KCP start at the wing spots. Let them guard opposing 2 and 3s based on particular matchups. If a matchup is bad for us we can simply sub in Morris at about the 6 minute mark if we need more size at the SF spot. Big thing is, if Wade leaves Miami you know he's going to have a huge chip on his shoulder after Riley throws him aside instead of paying him a reasonable offer for what he's done for the team. He's going to still draw the attention of opposing defenses. If we can get him to sign for something like 2 years, $40 million it also gives us a huge expiring contract at next year's trade deadline if he isn't looking like he'll be an important piece for a 2018 playoff run.

C: Dre (32) / Baynes (16)
PF: Harris (32) / Morris(16)
SF: Wade (12) / Morris (16) / Stanley (20)
SG: KCP (32) / Wade (16)
PG: Reggie (32) / Ish (16)

Seems like a really solid 9 man rotation.

Maybe its just because he looked pretty good in the playoffs... but I think the combination of his experience and leadership on our team would be pretty ideal for us. Horford is obviously a much better option and fit for us but I think that if you get a chance to add a player with Wade's pedigree to a team that we have right now, and if you only have to make it a 2 year deal (similar to what Utah just signed Joe Johnson for, put perhaps just a little more money per year) than you make that deal and hope he can come in and help our young core grow.

Right now, Wade is reportedly considering Milwaukee and NY and we are clearly better options than either of those teams.

Miami reportedly offered him an incredibly disrespectful $8 million per year... which is insane considering other contracts being given out.

Wade really wants $20 mil or close to it. Pistons won't pay that to sit KCP and less time for SJ. Not gonna happen.

We should offer the farm for Butler and sign Wade

KCP, Stanley, Harris, 2017 + 2019 1st round picks for Butler, Mirotic, Snell

Sign Wade to a 18-20M deal

Reggie / Ish
Wade / Hilliard - Bullock
Butler / Snell
Mook / Mirotic
Drummond / Baynes - Ellenson

I think DWade is only showing interest in other teams to get some respect from the Heat. I don't think we have the money to sign him, he's not a great fit and I doubt he would want to come live in Michigan after being in Miami his entire career. He's very redundant with Reggie, and turning 35 this season too.

This is KCP's biggest year in his career. It'll either be the biggest jump in terms of improvement or he'll stay the way he is. It would be stupid for the FO to take that opportunity away from him. KCP might become an All Star next season in terms of value. He's pretty incredible and he's going to get PAID!!

Bad in soooo many ways.

First of all, Miami isn't going to be stupid like the Lakers and give a golden parachute to Wade. They want Wade to act more like Duncan has with the Spurs. Paying Wade $20M to be "respected" is a very, very dumb move.

Second of all, just because Wade had some bright moments in the playoffs doesn't mean he is a star anymore. He is an average player and he has had a bunch of injuries. And he is old. He is not getting better, but getting worse. He is probably not even worth the 8-10M that Miami has offered him.

The only way he fits on our team if he totally accepts a bench role. He couldn't beat out KCP, so he shouldn't dream of doing it. And we still would only want to pay him somewhere around what Miami is offering him anyway.

Two ball dominant guards that can't play off ball with each other for extended minutes and have been mediocre shooters from deep their careers?

This is one of the primary reasons why Butler and Rose were broken up. Neither one of them wanted to be spot up shooters. This is the worst fit since Smith and Drummond.
