100% OT: RealGM Freezing Browser

Post#1 » by DocRI » Sat Jul 2, 2016 6:14 am

I'm just curious 'cuz this is driving me nuts — is anyone else having issues with RealGM locking up / freezing their browser? I'm on a Mac and I've always used Safari without problem, but ever since I upgraded to El Capitan OS the ads on RealGM (and pop up ads on other sites like HoopsHype) cause my entire computer to hang up, so badly that I can't even "force quit" and I have to turn it off and on again. Tonight I tried switching over to Google Chrome, and while it hasn't crashed my entire computer it's still slow as mud and I've gotten a bunch of "unresponsive tab" messages. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so have you found a solution

Thanks so much in advance!

P.S. — Literally as I was typing this (which took forever as I had to wait through many "spinning beachballs"), Chrome alerted me that "Plug-in Shockwave Flash wasn't responding" and then had crashed. I kinda figured this was SOMETHING Flash-related 'cuz it always involved the ads, but this seems like a decent clue to mention!

Ad block idk? I know for a couple months my old laptop wouldn't let me access the site and had to run some commands in the terminal but I'm not on mac. Maybe you can look ups some to help you, I'm not a computer wiz so I wouldn't really know what they would be.

I have absolutely no problems with RealGM. But, I only use one browser exclusively for RealGM. It has Ad-Blocker on it with Flash and Java both disabled. Now, it is blazing fast.

The ads on this site cause window crashes.

I haven't had any problems with the site. I'm using Chrome with the uBlock Origin ad blocker. The front page has been having some ads slip through the past few days though.

What I did was eliminate all ad's. I have no ad's by using ad blocker and disabling flash/java. But, you can probably fix most of your problems by also just disabling flash/java and using a pop up blocker.

I use ScriptBlock for Chrome on my PC and have no issues, but my phone is horrendous. I don't even bother trying anymore.

Blame Mass for this. He took the money like an all-star player when he had the choice of a clean well running site, or fat stacks.

This site runs like something out of the 90's. One of these times someone's going to end up getting a virus and it's going to come back to haunt the site as a whole.

If people would do what I do, they wouldn't have this problem. Disable Flash and Java then download the free Ad-Blocker Plus. I have zero problems. It is Flash which allows bad stuff to infiltrate your computers. If I want to watch one of your Youtube videos, I copy the video's URL and paste it into a different browser like Chrome. This is the only safe way to visit RealGM and never get Trojans, Virus's or Spy Ware. I have zero ad's when I visit RealGM. Those sections are blank.

I do 90% of my realgm'ing on my phone. Everytime I load a page I have to stop loading immediately. It makes me want to punch the admin with a hulk fist.

I understand the money angle, I truly do probably more so then many. I get you need those ad dollars but there is a line that crosses into slum lord territory and that marker was a few miles back. You have to have a balance and this site is amongst the worst on the Web and I would be embarrassed to have this in my name.

Ok then. There are free ad-blockers for phone and Browsers like Dolphin which don't support Flash. Same thing. I don't have problems with my phones browser. Definitely don't use Chrome for Phone.

Yeah browsing on mobile is the single worst thing you can do on your phone. It loads all sorts of ads and scripts before even loading the site.

Really needs to petition the owner to scale back some. Or get some lesser intrusive ads rather than utilizing every single ad client known to man on a sports site.

My old Commodore 64 boots up more quickly than the front page of this site.
