Who do you want left with what we got?

Assume somewhere between 7-9M so we are still looking at a role player. Other possibilities would be using the cap room to facilitate a trade, maybe get a pick out of it.

Tolliver just cost most of what our remaining cap would be.

So honestly I can take it or leave it entirely. Its not going to get us anyone that will help us in free agency. Trades might be worth exploring.

Yeah, if there's anybody out there teams are actually looking to dump it might be worth Detroit's time. Even when the moratorium ends contracts aren't officially counted against the cap until they're signed. The deals for Leuer and Smith have to be accounted for but Drummond, Ellenson (still has his draft slot cap hold though), and Gbinije can all sign at a later date to take the Pistons over the cap.

If Detroit signs someone else I think I want a pure shooter in the backcourt or a defensive... something. I prefer them to use the cap space either way though.

Unfortunately everyone has dang cap room really. We might be able to squeeze a second rounder or a decent player to give someone cap room. It could be to give someone else enough cap room to sign someone good or to help them match. My best case scenario is find a team that can give us a player on a short term deal and a 1st for the cap room. Ideally the first a few years out.

I'd like either a young big like Thomas Robinson or Andrew Nicholson or a shooter off the bench, because I'm not sold on Bullock. A name still on the board I didn't think would be, and am shocked is still there is Eric Gordon. I thought he would have gone to NY to play with Melo, Rose, Porzingis but they signed Courtney Lee instead. Could we get him to a short "prove it" contract that allows him to re-enter free agency with tv money going up? Would allow him to improve his stock and would give us some pop off the bench. Am I delusional?

R. Jackson/I. Smith/M. Gbinije*
K. Caldwell-Pope/E. Gordon/R. Bullock
T. Harris/S. Johnson/D. Hilliard+
M. Morris/J. Leuer/H. Ellenson
A. Drummond/A. Baynes

The news of him agreeing with Houston literally broke as you were typing that. Gordon got $53 million over 4 years though so yes, you were delusional. :D

If we can notch a backup C for Dre, then we will be able to move Baynes by the deadline for a pick or player before the deadline. otherwise he may just fall off our cap when we have no space and no money to resign.

Amir would be nice. Finish it up where it all started.

Trade back for Meeks? We move him to free up space to go after big free agent and strike out - just like PHX fif in trading up Mook to go after LaMarcus Aldridge.

$6 million for the 3 games we got out of him. Seems like a solid move!!

How many games has Eric Gordon missed over the last few seasons? And yet you still wanted him. Huh.

Pistons don't have any holes in the rotation to fill at this point. Only reason to sign someone would be to get a good deal. It's always nice to have tradeable assets, and Stan seems to be really good so far on the trade front.

Realistically, if we have to go ultra deep into the bench that means something has gone terribly wrong; but on general principle it bothers me that KCP is the only player on the team capable of guarding PGs.

He played 45 last season, which was 42 more than Meeks. He's also a much better player and obviously, I knew signing Gordon to a "prove it" contract was unrealistic hence the end of my post.

That's an interesting thought. Based on what has happened in free agency this off-season, Baynes almost definitely opts out after this year. Is another team really going to trade anything for half a season of Aaron Baynes though?

I'm not seeing any huge holes anymore. Ish smith and potentially gbenije fill the pg rotation out and Leuer and Ellenson fill out the PF rotation.
My vote would be keep the money for in season trades.

We can't. Once Dre is signed, the capspace is gone.
