No, but if they can find a team to take Amir Johnson they will be fine.

They don't have to find someone, they can just waive him. Amir and Jerebko agreed to amend their guarantee dates to 7/7 I believe, so, that BOS could make these moves if they were possible.

Would still make more sense to trade them because I imagine there must be teams out there that would give up something, even a token amount, to nab one or both of them before they hit the market.

Amir and Jonas both had those team options extended until the 7th because of this situation. The C's can still waive them.

Right, I understand. Still, Boston should be working the phones to line up a deal or deals for these guys when the moratorium ends. Their contracts will be guaranteed that day, but if you're getting Durant, you just have him wait to sign until July 7 -- after you've moved Amir and/or Jonas for a li'l something (and waived the other if there are no takers). Why waste that opportunity? Those guys are on bargain contracts. Somebody will give up a pick or an even cheaper replacement that clears enough space.

Or they'll wait until they're waived. That's why the players agreed to the extension - so if waived, they could participate in free agency. No way the Celtics squelch on that.

I think I'm missing something here. Can't they still be claimed off waivers and have their contract guaranteed by a new team? I don't see how that's any better than getting traded.

I hope so. The Nugs are in a good spot to take advantage of those kinds of deals.

Well, at least misery has company?

If its for 2 years (or more) I am bummed. I'm expecting...

3/65m last year half guaranteed.

I'm hoping for 1/25m

Waiting for the shoe to drop is sad.

Teams are spending like the cap is going up to $159M next year when it's only going up to $109M.

I guess it's better to spend money like there is no tomorrow, than spend tonight like there is no money.

If the Kings will be looking for a backup point guard, are they not planning on keeping (or being able to keep) Curry?

teams need at least 3 PG's and Curry is more of a combo guard anyway. They need another body.

not sure it was mentioned here, but one of the clipper blogs said crawford was offered a 1 year at $12m and he rejected it.

sooooo i'm guessing he's getting significantly more, and clearly he wants more than 12. he's said many times he feels like he could play for a few more years, or even to 40, so it seems like he really wants a big contract to close out his career.

I love how the Kings are comfortable going forward with a point guard who is facing legal charges. Must be nice being King(s).

Well according to the above tehy are misdemeanor charges so I could see how they might feel better about things. And while its low-hanging fruit to bash the Kings, they have had one of the best off-seasons so far. Great value on teh Beli trade, great value on their FA deals.

We need to be careful not to call moves bad based on history, but on the moves themselves.

Now Collison isn't a very good starter and I'm sure they'd love an upgrade but that guy isn't currently on the market.
