I would rather have Deng than Barnes Deng is the much better player.

Well it's happening. Rumors are that Barnes has received a max offer.

I hope the Warriors come to their senses and let Barnes go. I don't care what players say publicly about caring only about the team. It is horrible for team chemistry to pay a mediocre player by far the highest salary on the team. You can't even use the salary cap jump excuse. If Barnes is worth 24 million then it's going to take about 300 million to resign everyone to the next round of contracts. Someone will get screwed. Wildly overpaying a role player is taking a big risk.

Durant needs to come just to save ourselves from this monumental mistake.

Team chemistry about Barnes getting a bigger contract is a dumb argument.

Curry has been earning less money than Klay for a couple of years and less than Bogut and maybe Iggy too?

And this season, whether Barnes is on the team or not, he's going to be making more than any Warrior and so are a lot of mediocre players who just signed contracts this week.

If a player is going to pout every time someone gets paid more than him, there will never be peace in the NBA.

If you are a single guy and an ugly chick becomes available, it doesn't mean you have to date the ugly chick. Let Barnes go and wait for the hottie

Like who?

A lot of the supposed cheap replacements have signed already, and it hasn't been 48 hours since free agency began.

And nobody except some older or marginal players are getting less than $10 million a year.

I would much rather take a small step back next year and play with Rush or someone like that at the 3, then hopefully land a 3 next offseason. Then give Barnes roughly 24 mil a year. That would be roughly 1/4 of our cap this year and over 1/5 the year after that. And after next summer we won't be having big jumps in the cap.

In 18-19 the cap is probably going to be around 110. We will have roughly 36.5 tied up in Green and Klay. Add in Barnes roughly 23-24 mil, we will be looking at 60 mil tied up in 3 guys. Curry will no doubt get the max which will be 30+ and that puts us at roughly 90 mil between 4 guys and leaves us 20 mil before we hit the tax to find a 5th starter and a bench. We will be decimated if we match this offer

this might be a stretch but what about dwyane wade at the 2 and moving klay to the 3? low chance of occurring given wade will likely stay with the heat but that would be fun to watch. wade still has game and is still a big time player in crucial moments.

Agreed. A potential match cannot be understated. We would be murdering our flexibility for the next 5 seasons. Without matching Barnes or Ezeli we will have a boatload of cap room in a stacked FA class as one of the most desirable teams to play for. That is worth taking a small step back to pay buckets of money to mediocrity.

Wade would be amazing on this team, but 0% chance because we'd have to trade Bogut for him unless he takes a paycut, which is the whole reason for this.

Any such offer to Wade without trading someone like Bogut, Iguodala, or Livingston caps out at about $17M for this season.

pretty much

we suffered through years of having Biedrins contract on books and I never want to go back to having that horrible contract which is hard to get rid of.

And sadly now that Kerr has gone **** from spinal fluid on the brain, we're gonna miss Luke. This year might suck depending on what happens.

Yep. Probably going to be 9-73 this year.

I didn't mean we'd totally suck, just it wouldn't be fun to have another round of playoffs with a winnable finals but the coach can't make the adjustments to win and sticks with failing players they have a strange fixation with.

Hopefully the max Barnes matching talk from the W's camp is just to extract something from Dallas.

I would rather give Pau Gasol $25 mil for one year than four years at $20 mil+ to Barnes

yea, we cant max barnes, its suicide. if we dont get KD, let barnes go, start rush, increase iggy's minutes & sign pau to take festus' place and i think we actually improve abit.

I believe in this team.

we should get Matt Barnes or PJ tucker to improve the defense. Wasting time here with Barnes, just let him go.

Harkness is still out there, right? I rather take a chance on Portland not matching than sign Barnes for max.

An offer to Harkless would likely require renouncing Barnes. If the Blazers match, nothing to go back to.

Renounce Barnes and Ezeli. Go after Allan Crabbe and Gasol.
