This is borderline Stockholm Syndrome at this point.

people bitching about why not go after Mahinmi, he is cheaper yada yada, its turned out Mahinmi getting 64 mil too. Mozgov is better than Mahinmi and Biyombo.

about Luol Deng i dont know, but he has roughly the same stats vs Bazemore and can be more versatile offensively/defensively because of the size/length.

Lol we talking about 2017 cap space? We're going to go through this again after the failure that was the 2016 free agency? At this point I'm not sure it even matters what we do. :confused:

Mozgov $16M
Clarkson $12M

Ingram $6M
Young $5.7M
Russell $5.6M
Randle $4.2M
Nance $1.3M
Brown $1M
Total = $76.8

Assuming the 2017 salary cap is $108M. Lakers would have about $31M cap space for 2017. That's basically enough for one $30M max contract.

One of the big silver linings I see in signing Mozgov/Deng is that their championship/playoff/all star experience will be huge in helping mentor our young core. All of the naysayers and whiners here seem to be overlooking the fact that this team needs to start learning how to win.

The losing culture and bad habits of the last few years need to be excised from the youngsters heads. A high character/veteran presence in the locker room that also fills gaping holes on the roster is exactly what this Laker team needs. Add the fact the new players have had deep post season runs the last few years will prove wonders in the coming seasons. I really believe our young guns will soak up everything that is taught them from the vets.

Sure, I would've preferred Durant or Horford or any of the other veteran A-list guys, but we couldn't even get them to pick up the phone. And signing other young players like Biyombo or Basemore, though very attractive options, only add to the inexperience of our team.

I think the Lakers are making good choices considering the limited options they have. IMO, Punting all of their cap space for next season would be disastrous. You can't have these guys have another year of a losing mentality only to be turned away by Westbrook or other free agents yet again. The Lakers aren't going to make the playoffs any time soon...we all know that. So let's get to 30+ wins next year and show the rest of the league the team is improving. I think that can happen with this squad. With enough cap space for 1 max contract next year...maybe we can finally convince an A-lister to sign in 2017.
