Turner is here to be our version of Sean Livingston. We're not getting Gasol but I can see the team
making a run at guys like Sullinger, especially if the Celtics get Durant and we'll go with Plumlee,
Davis and Meyers. Boston has a logjam up front if they get Durant for they also have the third
pick in the 2016 draft in Jaylen Brown who is a SF.

Me too, and he got signed cheap 6/2..

He would have been buried on our bench though. There's nobody other than Parsons playing with him in Memphis. Great signing for them.

Please tell me I didn't miss anything with Meyers Leonard...

ESPN Trade Machine has him on the Blazers for 5 years at 24.2 mil per... WTF?!

I feel exactly the same way. We better prioritize Harkless. He isn't perfect but he impacts games and still has some upside.

I think most of us feel exactly the same way.

Now that the initial wave of signings have passed and the league is into the next round of secondary signings, timing is going to be very interesting for the Blazers.

Some of the obvious factors will include:

-KD signing
-Gasol signing
-Blazers restricted FA signing
-summer league kicks off this week

Im sure teams have been so busy with FA that trades have been an option, but maybe a bit on the back burner.

NeO has some big time planning and reaction to these initial few days.

Secondary signings???? We are into the 4th and 5th realm of signings!!! We are now into the bottom of the barrel, left over scraps of signings! Lol! We didn't get anything in FA. People shouldn't be surprised. It's been this way for 20 years now. Draft and trade are the only ways we become contenders. People need to move away from the FA ganja......

Look no further than Gerald Henderson. He had his best 3pt shooter percentage season last year in Portland. Last time he came close to .35 was two years ago and he shot roughly 30 more 3pt attempts his year with Portland..... oh, and he also played 1000 less minutes comparing the two seasons. So he shot way more threes in far far FAR less time on the court and hit his best percentage ever in the pros... at age 28.

Freaking Jason Kidd became a respectable 3pt shooter in his late 30's when he was a terrible 3pt shooter his whole career.

I don't know what Turner will do with his shooting percentages, but saying he CAN'T improve because of age is silly and just factually incorrect based on past history of other players.

To be clear, I was talking in terms of expectations. It is less likely IMO that a 28 year old will significantly improve on a skill they haven't shown much of than a 24 year old would do the same.

There are totally a ton of examples to show its possible, but I wouldn't go into the season expecting something like that. I do think improved spacing helps a player get their shots off and same with the confidence of getting a green light, and Turner isn't totally inept from there, so I'm cautiously optimistic that he could very well post a career high in shooting percentages by a few percentage points. As an advocate for signing Turner I would love to see him make a more significant improvement and become a real threat from deep but I'm not gonna be holding my breath or let down if he doesnt.

He deleted that tweet. It's worth noting that he grew up in LA. Probably spends his offseasons there.

I don't think Fakers have enough cap left for a serious offer

I think they have lots of space. About $37 million after Mozgov and Deng.

Edit: Forgot Clarkson, so around $25 million.

I liked Aldrich more for this team than almost all the other guys anyway. I pray we can still get him.

I don't think a SF/PF rotation of Turner, Aminu, Harkless is good enough though. Effectively we're limited to playing small and only playing small. Beyond that we're left with one guy who can't shoot, another who isn't a very good shooter, and the last one who's so streaky he often misses the whole basket or will be afraid to shoot, despite having a respectable percentage last year. Outside of Leonard our Centers can't score outside of 4 feet either ehich further clogs the paint.

We desperately need some solutions for our lack of versitity on size and our ability to spread the floor from the 3 & 4 spot.

So if we plug in Aldrich then what's our solution at the 3 & 4? I don't see that guy in the FA market. Anyone we could legitimately trade for?

Masterfully, you're off the hook. There is NO way Felton ever comes back to Portland and that has nothing to do with Olshey or Allen and everything to do with Felton. I think he was extremely happy to leave Portland. I can't ever see him willingly come back.

Potential Other Suiters For Aldrich (And I use potential very loosely)
Brooklyn
Dallas
Houston
New Orleans
Phoenix
Lakers

What does the cap space look like for these teams? Am I missing anyone?

if we lose out on gasol, i say we look at these defensive C'S
1st tier - d.dedmon or f.ezeli
2nd tier - r.hibbert, c.aldrich,, or m.plumlee[miles, who is supposed to be better defensively than mason]
3rd tier - a.varejao[a scrappy defender]

i think this is what each player could be had for per year
dedmon- 12-15 mil
ezeli - 15-18 mil
hibbert - 8-12 mil
aldrich - 10-12 mil
plumlee - 5-8 mil
varejao - 2-4 mil
Defense and rebounding wins games

I don't know your guys cap situation. Are the odds high that you bring back all of Crabbe, Leonard, and Harkless after signing Turner?

Wolves also have some interest in Aldrich.
