You're just listing the best players from the last few drafts, though, and we never really had a realistic chance at getting those players. Smart and Wiggins are mutually exclusive because they were drafted in the same year. We were in the Wiggins sweepstakes, lost, and ended up with Smart as our consolation prize. And there was no way we were going to be worse than Minnesota and end up with KAT. We were already not going to be able to be that bad even without the trades for Crowder and IT. After the trades, it was hopeless.

Just a random thing to remember while we are talking KD but remember when Perk returned to Boston and we gave him that tribute? KD was amazed by our fans and said nice things about our organization. ITS A SIGN

I believe NBA players are rational nowadays and such a team even with 38 wins this year instead of 48 would get a pitch meeting with both Horford and KD. And be in even a stronger position since only an idiot doesn't expect young playes to improve.

Lol...a desperate attempt to justify the tanking approach. Horford and KD are ready to win now. They do not want to wait another 3 years for players like Towns and Wiggins to learn how to win. No way they take a meeting with a team in that position.

Ainge played this close to perfect. Cap space for 2 studs, draft picks, and a bunch of players and depth ready to win now. Tanking would have left the Celtics with cap space and "potential" stars to develop or trade.....but that very little room to add depth.

My first nephew was born the morning of the 23rd, just before I made the trip up to the draft and got to meet Jaylen Brown. Hopefully the good vibes continue today!

Boston Celtics: MOVED INTO PRIME POSITION. They brought Tom Brady. They signed Al Horford. They have the market, the team, the front office, and perhaps most importantly, the coach in Brad Stevens. Here, in fact, is what Durant said about having a great coach during the Thunder's second-round series vs. the Spurs:

"Having a really good coach is probably the most important thing in this league. You can have all the great players you want but you have to have someone to orchestrate it. That's what they have, a great coach that can put them in positions to utilize all their individual strengths and make them come together as a team. (Gregg Popovich is) the guy who's been here for the longest, having someone like that to orchestrate what you do obviously helps."

Decent conclusions by the author but still terrible analysis. Talks too much about coaching. A rookie coach has won the last two titles.

Players play lip services to coaches.

Those damn picks and the Celtics current talent is what is a heck of a lot more important than any damn coach. Players know it as well. If coaching was so important a rookie NBA coach wouldn't beat a 67 win Spurs team coached by Popovich.

If the C's land KD, IMHO primarily credit Ainge/Billy King/Nets owner/PP/KG.

Way to go congrats bud.

Had to remind myself when i first woke up this morning that it wasn't a dream that the Celtics signed Al Horford and that there is a case of Focal Banger in the fridge.

Congrats to you and your wife DDB.

I'm daydrinking in New Orleans today. Wish me luck.

I think for players the coach matters a lot simply because that's the guy who's going to be in your ear every day. It's not so much "great coach=title" as it is "this guy is gonna be my boss and I want to enjoy working under him." These guys are human just like the rest of us. Everyone wants to avoid working under a boss they don't get along with.

I'm not saying it's the deciding factor, but it's definitely more than just lip service.

I just have a feeling KD would like his chances in the Eastern Conference once Lebron declines a bit more.

I still kind of figure he goes back to OKC for one last crack at it with Russell Westbrook. They came pretty close last season.

So you think his chances in the West against Curry/Thompson/Green, Spurs collective, Clippers trio and the young Blazers with Lillard/McCollum is easier than literally just LeBron and the Cavs in the East?

Idk about that...

Your response is an utter joke. You clearly didn't watch the Wolves last year. Andrew Wiggins and Towns are ready to win right now as the 2nd and 3rd best players on a team. I saw them beat Golden State in Oakland. The last two rookie of the years wouldn't help lure KD?

Towns is probably considered a top 25 NBA player heading into next season and Wiggins isn't that far behind based upon how he played the 2nd half of last year.

The Nets trade WAS a tanking trade.

ALL of the players who I said to get rid of in the summer of 2013 to tank harder for Wiggins are gone.

I said to get rid of Green/Rondo/Bass/Wallace(via buyout)/Lee and they are all gone.

It is the anti tankers that often wanted to build around Rondo/Love or Carmelo Anthony.

I routinely dismissed such moves. I don't want someone that hasn't been 1/5 as close to me on advocating the right moves to make to get away with joke opinions. Your arguments are ridiculously embarrassing.

Wiggins/Towns and loaded roster wouldn't make it harder to sign Horford/KD. They make it easier. Towns/Wiggins are the players you hope to draft with future Nets picks. You just hope to draft them on a team with tons of picks going forward and cap space.

If the Celtics had Towns/Wiggins, KD would only be meeting with one team. Boston. It would already be over with the other Celtics assets that they have. I mean over. The reason MN isn't getting meeting is since they don't have IT/Bradley/Smart(players I like) and they don't have cap room and tons of picks going forward. And MN does make Boston seem warm....

What are you two talking about? He said he thinks KD is signing with us two posts before that. He's giving it as a reason.

Best of luck to Orlando, man!!!!!!!
