Good Fit for KD, he puts GSW over the top.

At least it's not Boston. That's what some outlets were reporting. Just means another Cleveland/Golden State Finals.
Joining Boston would have been much better.
Joining a 73 win team after you choked away a 3-1 series lead is pathetic.
I really feel for OKC fans now.
Absolutely disgusting.
I'm a Wizards fan so yeah, I'm glad it's not Boston. Don't really care about OKC fans. They had a great team and now you join another team that choked away a 3-1 lead.

So we use his 14.5 cap hold until we finish signing people or until we get close to the cap. then in theory is we need to we can use the room before we sign beal and go over the cap, then once we sign beal his new contract counts as a cap figure, which will be about 8 mill more than it does now. Then we should still have the mid level to use before we hit the tax.
Thanks for the explanation. So we have 1) $6m cap room, 2) room exception (@ $3m - ?), and 3) mid-level exception (how much $$ ?), and the only upper limit we need to worry about is the tax level. That means we are still able to sign 3 players.
Can we use the room exception before we use the $6m in actual cap space? Or, if not, can we combine cap space and the room exception in a single contract?
I ask because I'd really love to sew up Seth Curry, and $3m seems the right amount for him.
Are we also able to sign a vet minimum player w/o concern for the cap, or does that have to fit in real cap space? Thinking of Hickson; he's pretty good, and he would be especially useful to us because he can play the 4.
PIF, We only have the 6M and the Room exception (And Vet min). We have no Mid-level exception as you lose that and the Bi-Annual if you are below the cap.
And no, we cannot combine the 2. I'd love to bring back Alan Anderson for the vet min after we use the cap space and room exception. Curry(Room) and Dedmon(Cap space) are two players I'd like to get.
We have 10 guys, 11 if we make room for McClellan (no, I'm not including Eddie). So we are going to need 3-4 more players.
I don't know what you or anyone likes about Alan Anderson, but sure... depth at the 3 is something to address.
It's just that I'd rather have someone younger -- who can become an asset w/ some value. Quincy Acy is a combo; he might do very well. Use cap space $$ to get him.
Seth Curry is a low risk / high reward kid -- sign him for 3 years w/ the room exception.
We need depth at the 4 more than we need a 3d Center like Dedmon. Acy would help there as well, but I still would sign J.J. Hickson for the veteran minimum -- a bargain for him, and he can play the 5 as well.

It'll be interesting to see how Golden State fleshes out their roster. Assuming the jettison Bogut, they'll have about $10M in cap room to go along with the following roster:
PG Curry/Livingston
SG Klay/Livingston
SF Durant/Iggy
PF Green/Iggy/Looney
C ??
I don't think it's wise to start Green at center all season. Who's left to play starting center? They could retain Varejao for cheap, but he's only a limited-minute backup. Still need a starter.
But holy crap! That 6-man rotation at the 1, 2, 3 and 4 has got to be the best of all time.

Maybe Demarcus Cousins can sign with them. Anthony Davis can come off the bench.

They'll find somebody at center. It's the most ridiculous offensive lineup we've ever seen. Still a lot of KD at the 4 and Draymond at the 5. Gasol and Dirk still out there.

Do we take a look at any of the Warriors' castoffs, who will get released due to this KD contract? Not talking about Bogut, but maybe James Michael McAdoo? Athletic but raw 4 man?

They might bring back Dedmon
No idea where else they could get a C

It doesn't matter. They could start a 12 year old girl at C and still win the championship.

I would have taken on Bogut's contract instead of signing Mahinmi. We probably could have gotten a future 1st in that deal.

What's remarkable is that, not only is it an incredible collection of talent, it's talent that has such synergy.
The Lebron-era Heat had a ton of talent, but Wade and Lebron were both dominant ball handlers with limited range and they suffered a bit when both were on the floor. Bosh had to become a lower usage defensive specialist to accommodate the others.
But in Golden State, everybody gets to play to their strengths. Klay can play 3&D floor spacer who can attack close outs. Green is the jack of all trades facilitator who rebounds, defends and passes. Curry and Durant are just as good whether they're on the ball or off the ball. Just give the ball to whomever is guarded by the worse defender and have the other guy play off ball. Everybody except Curry is a plus defender.
As long as they find a center who is either an aggressive offensive rebounder or a decent midrange shooter, they will be completely unstoppable on offense.

ok.
You wanna bet Boston and Toronto will regress? I'd take Beal and Wall over any 2 on those teams. No one thought Boston will win 48 games this season with a mediocre lineup.
Let's talk Boston first. They were young last year. They gained another year of experience AND they added Horford. They are going to regress?

Remind me why we even care about essentially a 2 team league again? Seriously. Why do the Wizards even exist? Just have Cleveland and Golden Stats play each other 82 times a year and call it the NBA.

Pretty interesting article about Sato from Fran Fraschilla in Oct. 2015. I forgot that the 3-point line over there is 2 feet shorter than the NBA. Sounds like we still need another 2 guard to backup Beal and Sato would be more of a backup to Wall, assuming he's ready to play in the NBA.

The wizards were a young team a season ago and they regressed. They have superior top level talent compared to the Celtics. Al Horford is on the wrong side of 30 and he's their best player.I will be shocked if they sniff 48 games this season. It should not be a surprise to anyone if the Wizards outplay them this season.

Yeah, just like Lakers and Celtics. Nobody is beating Cleveland, not Atlanta or Boston or Indiana or Toronto, though they might be closing in as LeBron ages. Spurs are aging and Westbrook will be putting up 40 a game. Kind of sucks to be an NBA fan and a Wiz fan unless you are from Cleveland, the Bay area, or are a bandwagon fan.

This is the unfortunate byproduct of the rapid escalation in salaries. Basically, every year, most teams have had the flexibility to do crazy stuff like this to load up on talent. Eventually, it becomes obvious that the only way to counter a Super Team is to build a Super Team of your own. With a finite amount of elite talent available, everyone else loses out.
Things will settle down once the cap levels off and cap constraints begin to enforce parity again. But for now, there's nothing to do but wait. If nothing else, this gives a glimpse of what the league would look like in the absence of a salary cap (assuming maximum salaries continue to be enforced).
The best solution would be to end the concept of a maximum salary. In such a world, Lebron and Durant would get paid 50-60% of the cap, not 35%, and it would be impossible to assemble so much talent around them.

With Woj's reports that this has been it the works for months, it makes me seriously question if KD tanked the Warriors series to make this happen. 12-31 game 5, 10-31 game 6. He can't join Golden State after beating them and presumably winning the title, could he?
