OT: Durant to Warriors

Post#1 » by Joe Berry » Mon Jul 4, 2016 4:36 pm

Well i am glad now the Pistons didn't go for the quick fix in Horford, the Warriors should be unbeatable for the next few years. Pretty lame decision by Durant, he did choose the super easy way to the title.
Hopefully when Drummond, KCP, Stanley hit their primes in a few years the will have a better chance at the title, because right now i can't imagine anyone beating the Warriors anytime soon even if they have a giant hole at C. Who knows if Drummond really develops into a top 10 two way player and fixes his FT problem, it could be the Pistons to punish GSW smallball stuff.

Warriors are gona be crazy, Thunder need to re build and trade Westrbrook. Get some more nice young players to go with Oladipo and start over.

Honestly, I'm just bummed out for the league, and bummed out for the message this sends to small market teams:

Even if you do everything right and build a contender around your guy, you'll still lose him eventually.

I do like Westbrook a lot. If the Thunder are a solid playoff team this year I think he'll get the MVP.

I like it for a few reasons.

One, I developed a healthy distaste for the Thunder, particularly Westbrook, over the whole Reggie thing. Glad their party is over and Russ got left hanging. Two, I find it kind of fascinating to see this spectacle of such a super team. I know most don't like it, but I am interested to see how dominant they are, or if we're surprised and they're not as good as advertised. Third, it keeps him out of the East in Boston, who would be very formidable with KD and those assets. Last, it helps deny LeBron and the Cavs a repeat.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I think this will spur change in the next CBA negotiation. Whether it's getting rid of max contracts and implementing a hard cap, significantly raising the max salary percentages, significantly raising how much a player can make by staying with his own team, or something else there's motivation to get something big done now.

It is crazy how the Thunder almost beat the Warriors in the playoffs and now Durant leaves to play for them after getting beat.

Oh yeah.

You can bet a lot of league owners are not happy about this.

I'm more upset at the situation than I am at any individual character.
They didn't go for any cap smoothing.
They didn't adjust any existing contracts for inflation.
There is a hard cap for player salaries when the stars are worth much more than that.
Teams can't contact players for fear of tampering, but players can recruit each other.

Without even getting into Durant's reasoning for leaving OKC and/or joining GSW, just, so many things had to happen for the last two MVPs to join forces in free agency as a free agent under the cap. It's gross.

Cavs are going to have a hard time matching up with the Warrior's with Kevin Love in the lineup...

Not to be too much of a homer or anything, but I think we match up really well with the Warrior's.
We have a lot of versatile defenders to pretty much match up with any lineup they throw at us.

Yeah, like San Antonio. Sorry, that's the only example of do everything right and they have kept their core through the years.

I think it's great. We were never going to win the eastern conference with Lebron here so I would rather the Warriors win the championship than Cleveland.

That's how I felt about the 15-16 season. I wanted Spurs, Thunder, or Warriors to advance and take out Cleveland. I still have an (irrational?) dislike for LeBron and the Cavs and Ohio and LeBron. I still feel gross that they won, and that James has been vindicated in the public eye.

I'd root for Lebron over the Warriors next year.

And I don't say that lightly.

No no no.

We're not doing this. This is classless behavior and totally unacceptable.
