Wiz can't run out this group of misfit toys, can they?
Misfit?
Wall / Burke
Beal / Sato
Otto / Oubre
Kieff / Nicholson
Gortat / Mahinmi
We also have McClellan, 6M in cap space, and the room exception to fill out another G, a wing, and big.
What EG is doing is building a deep team and hoping Brooks and Co can make Wall, Beal, Otto, and Oubre improve. If we prove to be a 47 -50 win team, then we have the assets to add final piece (Cousins, Blake, Gallinari, etc.)
Wow.... I hope Brooks will be a good coach, but a team can't be better than its players. Last year we were a 41 win team. Do we have better players this year?
Mahinmi upgrades us at backup Center, we can be pretty sure of that, while Burke downgrades us at backup PG.
We have no depth at SF -- I certainly hope KO can be a productive player this early in his career, but he was pretty bad last year, so we'll have to see. I do expect Porter to continue getting better.
We haven't improved at the 4. I'm glad everyone likes Nicholson, but he isn't an upgrade over anybody. He earned 800 minutes PT on a 33 win team last year.
Satoransky coming over is a plus, obviously, since it means we actually get something from our 2012 high R2 pick, but that's not the same as saying that he'll be very good very quickly. If he is, that will be a pleasant surprise -- but def. a surprise.
IOW, so far we're still a 41 win team. Now, we'll add 2 - 3 players, so maybe things will change. E.g. it's hard to believe we're going to depend on Burke behind Wall.
