I'm less concerned about Philly being awful again. This upcoming draft has 4-5 potential true impact guys at the top with Tatum, Giles, Jackson, Fultz and and Rabb (I think he's gonna blow up, personally).
Looking around the NBA, the Sixers and Suns will likely be awful again (though PHX could be sneaky good if Bledsoe is healthy, given the breakout they saw from Booker). LAL spent a ton of money and will be less-bad than last year. Minny, NOP, ORL and NYK should all be better.
I still see the Nets as a bottom-5 team, probably bottom-3. I mean, we're lauding the likes of Jeremy Lin, Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson - these are guys who should be 6th/7th/8th men for teams and they will be carrying the load for them. RHJ is a nice piece, Lopez is always solid but they also lost their best player in Thad Young.
Even after their moves, you're looking at a rotation of:
PG/SG: Lin/Crabbe/Johnson/Whitehead/LeVert/Kilpatrick
SF/PF: RHJ/Bogdanovic/Booker/McCullough
C: Lopez
They have nobody who can defend in the backcourt (really no defenders at all save RHJ), no PF on the roster to speak of, and no shooting in the frontcourt to space the floor.
Plus, no idea if Atkinson has a clue how to coach. He spent four years under a crummy D'Antoni Knicks era and then was an assistant with Bud. That suggests he'll find a way for that team to put the ball in the hole, but based on D'Antoni/Bud and that composition of players, they might also be dead last in defensive efficiency.
Lastly, they're one injury from Lopez from being truly, truly awful. Not that I wish it on the guy but let's not pretend it's a 0% risk.
