It's only when I'm at work that it's an issue, and I don't have a lot of freedom to download software.
At work, I keep the headphones plugged in for such situation. I know it's not great, but what else can you do?
At home, it's also a problem for those late finishing games when my wife is asleep and unexpected sounds could wake her up. It's bad enough on those rare occasions when the Knicks were doing so well I couldn't keep myself from cheering out loud... but it wasn't that often, unfortunately.
I listen to Howard Stern, Joe Rogan, and Opie and Jim all day every day at work. so I always have my headphones on. Only I can hear the ads when they pop up, but it's still annoying.
You are a lucky guy. I have to be able to listen to my bosses.

If they won't let you download even an ad blocker, then maybe you're actually not that lucky. Do they let you use a good browser?
