A Quick Grammar Lesson

Post#1 » by Bakuto » Wed Jul 6, 2016 12:44 am

Alright guys, forgive me and if this gets locked I'm okay with that. I just want as many posters to see this as possible.

When watching posters debate, I try to see both sides of the argument(s).

However, when one of you guys is calling the other a homer, or a pessimist, or whatever; please note that typing "your" makes no sense, and in response I literally cannot take your post and therefore opinion seriously.

Your symbolizes possession of an object. If I wanted to call one of you guys a homer I would have to say "You're a homer". You're is a combination of you and are. Saying "Your a homer." is basically saying that the poster has a homer. That sounds stupid.

I wish I didn't have to tell you guys this, but being a teacher, I can only bare so much before cracking. Please take note of this guys.

You guys know who you are. :x

I agree, this is a bit overdramatic. I'm a litigation attorney and I have to read cases and write motions all day, every day and even I wouldn't consider dismissing someone's post over a typo or misspelling.

Haha I'm surprised "your" v "you're" is the thing that frustrates you most about this board, catalysm.

I know, I must admit though Grammar has never been a strong suit and I've been out of school for like 13 years now. I'm sure I'm more then guilty of bad grammar like that.

Well that's vastly different from a forum, different contexts entirely.

Also I'm going to lock this because it seems like the perfect place to start calling out posters and we don't need that.

The lesson still stands though. Everyone spell and use grammar correctly
