Jason Smith To Washington Wizards 3 years/$16 million

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Wed Jul 6, 2016 12:45 am

The Wizards have signed another Magic forward.

Jason Smith was signed with the Washington Wizards for 3 years/$16 Million.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/242707/Wizards-Agree-To-Three-Year-$16M-Deal-With-Jason-Smith

A few days ago, they came to terms with Andrew Nicholson.

Jason Smith did a great job in his one season here but it was a numbers game in terms of dollars and probably minutes that sent him packaging,

Nothing but the best to Jason Smith.

Dwayne Dedmon is now the only Magic free agent not to have signed anywhere yet.

Mentioned in the other thread: three years is a long time to watch Jason Smith take long 2s.

I suppose they can always trade him later. That's the life of a journeyman.

Great additions for Washington. Their frontcourt depth last year was a major weakness. Neither of these additions are going to generate any excitement, but they both represent significant upgrades on very affordable deals.

So looking forward to our second unit not relying on long pointless 2's!

But best of luck to Smith in WASH along with Nicho.

I just got nauseous thinking about having to watch Smith fire up mid range jumpers for 3 seasons. Seems like a good guy though

Good team guy, and surprisingly good defense, but I could not stand the long 2s. 3 years of that would've been frustruating. On to bigger and better!

Is that where Nicholson went? Good for him.

Gortat, Nicholson, Smith...they like former magic bigs in DC eh?

Happy for Jason. I liked him a lot this past season and it sucks to see him go. Glad he was able to get a 3 year contract as well. Him and his family are probably ready to stay in one place for a few years.

And Mahinmi.

If I'm the Wiz, I'd give a long hard look at:

Mahinmi/Gortat
Nicholson/Smith
Morris/Porter
Beal
Wall

Not gonna happen, but Nicholson would be a great post scoring option for those guys.

It seems Washington fans are "meh" when it comes to the Nicholson and Smith signings.

Well, we let them go for a reason. Meh players in general but I think Nicholson especially can find his footing in the NBA there.

Yeah true, I suppose it's hard to get excited about players that aren't big names and that most people are unaware of...

I know Jason sometimes got jumper happy, but the man could block some shots. Some of my favorite defensive plays last year were from Smith. Best of luck JS.

Case in point...
