We know what Pat can do. He's a solid guy off the bench but nothing more and I doubt he ever will be. Shot is too inconsistent, defense is overrated but he has good games here and there and is a team player.
Maybe eventually...but I don't like the idea of starting a rookie big man at the start of the season. Its tough enough to adjust to the NBA game in general. Don't like the idea of throwing on the need to avoid committing fouls as well.
He really wouldn't need to avoid fouls though. With Patterson playing 28 MPG (he should be doing this regardless) and Carroll probaby getting closing minutes at PF (say, 5 MPG split between the 2nd and 4th Q's), he'd only need to carry 15 MPG, even as a starter. Even historically bad foulers tend to be able to survive 15-20 minutes.
