Porzingis for Westbrook
It's being floated out there and I want to squash it.
I would not do this deal.
Reasons:
1)
Westbrook will be 28 early on in this season - his game is highly dependent on his athleticism - he's had three knee surgeries already - he's going to be on the decline within 3 or 4 years for sure
Porzingis will be 21 soon, his prime will last easily until 34 - doesn't need athleticism in the same way as Westbrook at 7'3"
I take 13-14 years over 3-4
2)
We can only really be a contender in the next few years (which is what Westbrook would be coming for) if we ADD someone like Westbrook to this group and if Porzingis becomes a legit star right away (it may take him a few more years). Westbrook, Lee, Melo, Scrub, and Noah - are not a real contender. Would Westbrook even agree to an extension with the Knicks without Porzingis on the team?
3)
Next year we have a good shot at signing Westbrook, which is our only shot at being a contender. All sources are saying that for Westbrook the Knicks and Lakers are the two options. If the Knicks are good this year and the Lakers are not, we will have a very good shot to land him with Porzingis still on the Knicks. The Lakers will be crappy and not a contender.
4)
Next year we also have a good shot at CP3, who is someone that also should be good for about 3 or 4 years - his game is not about athleticism. Melo can finally deliver a free agent.
5)
I think Porzingis will be a better player than Westbrook if you compare their primes and impact on the game. I know this is a guess, but I'm comfortable with it. A Porzingis is more rare than a Westbrook - there has never been a guy like him.
6)
It's a Knicks move that reeks of the same stupidity that has plagued this franchise for decades. Don't make that same mistake.
7)
Cost. Porzingis almost costs nothing. No cap hit. More room for talent.

Nobody smart is saying that KP should be dealt for Westbrook when he can come here next summer if he wants to. Why are we acting like Phil would ever do this anyways?

Re: Porzingis for Westbrook
Are we talking about signing Jan or Martins Porzingis and trading them for Westbrook?

THIS. Who floated it in the first place? SAS?
If Smith is the guy who brought it up, pointing and laughing is the only valid response.

Why are we even addressing this because some fool in the press floated it. Next year we will have a chance to sign Westbrook, or Paul or Rose without giving up anything. I'm sorry, but this just makes board posting at times seem, dumb

Isiah and Dolan would make this trade. Pray that neither have any control of these decisions.

Look, I agree. But there are a lot of not smart people out there. All of the radio shows have people talking about this. The only firm "no" I've heard form a host or insider or whatever they are (e.g. broussard) is from Hahn, who yes, is smart. Lots of other guys are saying they'd do it. I know it's talk and some people are dumb, but it's out there, and because this is the Knicks, who have not been historically smart - I'm having a bit of a trauma response.
Thank you all for expressing intelligent reasonable responses to this. Makes me feel better.
