Official 2017 Draft Thread - Something Positive To Look Forward To

Post#1 » by RexBoyWonder » Tue Jul 5, 2016 12:57 pm

Couldn't take a chance and wait until IggieCC opens this thread, we would've drafted Kaminsky's little brother.

So, we didn't have a pick last year, and we won't have a pick next year (unless it's in the top 10).

BUT WE HAVE A PICK THIS YEAR! YAY!

Too early to predict where our range will be, we could end up tanking hard or being a playoff team depends on Bosh's health, Wade situation and trades.

This upcoming draft is considered to be LOADED, a bunch of high upside guys. But we'll have to wait and see them ourselves.

Worst case scenario - Overplay the younglings and tank for a top 5 pick, try to draft a star. Good option to have in our back pocket.

Few names we should follow :

1 Harry Giles PF
18 yrs; 6'11"; 222 lbs.

2 Markelle Fultz PG
18 yrs; 6'5"; 186 lbs.

3 Jayson Tatum SF
18 yrs; 6'8"; 204 lbs.

4 Josh Jackson SF
19 yrs; 6'8"; 203 lbs.

5 Frank Ntilikina PG
17 yrs; 6'5"; 170 lbs.

6 Dennis Smith PG
18 yrs; 6'2"; 160 lbs.

7 Thomas Bryant C
18 yrs; 6'10"; 241 lbs.

8 Marques Bolden C
18 yrs; 6'11"; 250 lbs.

9 Edrice Adebayo PF
18 yrs; 6'9"; 225 lbs.

10 Jarrett Allen C
18 yrs; 6'11"; 227 lbs.

If we learned anything lately, is that rookie contracts ARE GOLDEN in this NBA. And that stars are hard to get.

I'm interested to see how the big men develop their draft stock over the course of the year. Not a lot of standouts right now. I'm surprised JG has Giles ranked number one. Two knee surgeries and hasn't played in a while, and he's number one in a very well stocked draft?

However, the wings in this class look dreamy. I love Frank Jackson. I love Josh Jackson. Dennis Smith looks like a beast. Fultz has some serious skills.

We could be a player.

I would like a nice young draft pick with our core of Winslow and J-Rich (maybe TJ).

I see us in the playoffs barring any big time injuries to Whiteside, Dragic, or Wade (who will be back)

So looking at a pick around 20-25 it's kind of a crapshoot. Obviously big men are going to be the priority with only Whiteside and a 33 year old, may healthy maybe not Bosh going into 2017-2018.

One thing I really, really want to see this season is us develop and lock up for 2-3 years some solid undrafted bigs similar to what we did with TJ and HW. Our scouting department has been fantastic lately, I really hope we keep that momentum.

The Heat can easily get an All-Star type player in the top 10. There will be a lot of good point guards like Markelle Fulz, Lonzo Ball and Dennis Smith available. But the only way the Heat get a top pick is if Bosh doesn't play. This will be a good year to tank in my opinion.

Great year to tank and have a ton of cap room. If you get a top 7 pick you have a chance to get a franchise type player. This draft is that loaded at the top. So if you guys can get a top 5-7 pick then land one of the big time free agents, you guys are right back in the hunt in the east with a pretty young team

Welp, Wade's gone. Miami has too much talent to land a Top 3 seed, but how awesome would that be?

Has an almost a 2002 feeling. Loved watching butler as a rookie and knowing we had a shot at drafting a stud. Gonna enjoy watching Richardson and Winslow get a lot more opporuntities and hopefully have them develop at a much quicker rate now along with whiteside

I'm very intrigued by the PG's in this class. I hope we get into a position where we can pick one of these guys. Several starters on their rookie deals is huge. Jrich RFA 2018, Winslow 2019, and next years pick RFA 2020. These guys will get raises around the time our pick debt to Phx starts and hopefully thats when our contending window opens.

If we trade Dragic for picks/prospects and Bosh retires we can definitely get a top-5 pick, maybe even top-3. Hand the reigns over to the youngsters & let the new Heat begin.

Even if we keep Dragic it's still going to be lean.

I'm really hope a legit interest in Dragic materializes. He's a good player and think we could get back our 1sts for him at a minimum.

I like the upcoming draft. Way better than 2016. Makes sense to trade Dragic for picks. Bosh probably retires.

Though I don't see us going for a full rebuild if Bosh doesn't retire. Whiteside-Bosh-Winslow-Richardson-Dragic is still a Playoff level lineup. -Albeit without HC-

with Whiteside here, and Bosh'es age - we need to trade him too if he can back his value back after staying healthy for a full year

We lost 3 starters and don't have Bosh. It's Dragic+Whiteside+our bench from last year against the world. I think we can get a top 5 pick, even if we try to win. We're not better than many teams. The only teams I think we can definitely beat are:

1. Brooklyn
2. 76ers (and it's very close)
3. Kings (we may split these)
4. Lakers
5. Suns
6. Pelicans (probably split these)

Dallas and Houston aren't very good, but they will likely beat us.
Knicks will likely beat us. :-(
Wizards are bad but they are better than us
Hawks aren't any better than before, but they are much better than we are
Denver isn't great but they will win there and may beat us here. Let's be generous and give us a win.
OKC much better than we are
Orlando definitely better.
Memphis better too
Pistons will be tough but we might get a game or even two. We play harder against them.
Bucks are much better than us now.

Pacers will make us lose ugly.
Celtics will massacre us
Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto will beat us before we step across the sideline
Warriors (ha ha)
Trailblazers are much better
Clippers will be a slamdunk (for them)
Minnesota sweeps us
Utah torches us
Hornets will destroy us. Purple Dude doesn't even need to show up.

So from the first group of 6, give us 9 wins.
From the second group give us 11 wins.
From the third group give us 5 random wins.

25 win team.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^
