So, are we swallowing Tyler Johnson's Poison pill? is this the right move?

After Wade's Departure I dont know if this is the right move for Heat's future. Realistically talking, we are in deep Sh%t and I dont think is the right move the get committed for 4 years/ 50mil with Tyler, we don't know if he will ever become a decent role player. This is a big Gamble!

We have to start going towards youth. It's a gamble, especially not knowing whats going to happen with Bosh. The only free agent I know of for next season is Russell Westbrook (I haven't looked up who else will be a free agent). My guess is that since he is the biggest free agent with a chance of moving, Riley will want flexibility for him.We don't really have many draft picks since we trade them all away for anything, so we'll have to rely on free agency and trades. Maybe Riley offers Johnson a contract for the same amount of money but more spread out over the 4 years so the cap hit isn't as big. Who knows? The poison pill in a rebuilding process isn't the right way to go. Of course, it all depends on Chris Bosh.

If by Any Miracle Bosh is back healthy, his contract will become a bargain. With Bosh is a Win-Win situation, if he is back fully recovered(doubtful) or he is medically retired we will be in a good position.

$10 mil a year for a solid backup these days is a bargain. This is still a bargain contract. We are not competing for a ship next year or the year after that I think we match it. Then if he works out well be can always trade him for an asset or draft pick and better our position.

We should match. I doubt TJ ever becomes a good playmaker but I think he can develop into an Avery Bradley type. A 3&D combo guard type of guy.

I was all in favour of matching TJ but now I think about it, maybe he signed a poison pill contract because he wants out of Miami.

If that's the case let him go.

Why the hell would he want out of Miami? We're the team that gave him a chance as an undrafted player and gave him a lot of minutes. He gets along quite well with Hassan as well.

I would think about matching his contract if the belief was that Bosh was done and retiring. If not, **** that. It's called a poison pill for a reason.

Nah, I think its too late anyway. Even if it wasnt too late, the structure of it would have created tons of problems for us. I'd rather see that money go towards vets who can shoot and drive if the dribble. Wayne Ellington, Marcus Thornton, someone like that would fit well off the bench here instead.

He wants out of Miami for the money.

We agree.

No disdain of the team at all implied. Even though you were talking about his loyalty to the team and his friendship with hassan. I think it's simple he wants the money and agreed to a deal to force his way out.

I like him. He could be our starting SG this season but he wants out.

I am thinking that Miami should offer a similar Front Loaded contract perhaps. Who knows, but if the team is committed to developing a new young squad of TJ, Josh and Winslow, the future can still be bright for years.

How about we match the 50mil but instead give him something like this:

2016-2017= $19 Mill
2017-2018=$6 Mil
2018-2019=$6 Mil
2019-2020=$19 Mil

Once the offer sheet has been signed (it was) you cannot change the terms of the poison-pill contract. If you match it, you swallow the whole contract as is. You can't manipulate the pay schedule or any material terms of the contract. There is no wiggle room for renegotiation.

Besides which, that pay schedule you listed violates both the Gilbert Arenas Provision (which he is under) and the annual salary increase/decrease limit.

Last year is player option, so even if we cannot trade him, perhaps he is willing to opt out to extend terms to help out (assuming anyone wants to do that anymore). I say match, because it is small hit the next two years, which are most critical, we need talent and assets and he can become one, even one to possibly move in a package for a player like Westbrook, and you have to figure we will either force retire or eventually amnesty Bosh.
