That was obvious all along but a lot of people on this board didn't pick up on it because they badly want another young player to go along with Porzingis. I mean..Phil went out of his way to basically call him sh*t at the end of the season

Also, he's nearly 24, can't shoot, and isn't the smartest guy on the court.

Here is what I found interesting;

I won't name the person who said it but they said, "That was Phil's pick. Dude loves big PGs and reached. And we realized by the end of Summer League last year."

In bold for you.

He sat behind calderon one of the worst starting PG's in recent memory, I wasnt touting this guy as the future by the end of the season. People on the staff knew at the end of the summer league, which wasn't "obvious all along". That's what was interesting. You and whoever else that want to act like they knew by the end of summer league last year can send me the next lotto numbers.

I think what is even more interesting is that this person said that Phil loves point guards.

This board swore up and down that he didn't care for them, and had no interest in improving the position.

Eh, to be fair he said "loves big pg's" which we kind of already knew.

Phil as a coach used to say adjustments are made at halftime (somewhat paraphrasing here) and Phil has adjusted. Flexibility is important and Phil being as stubborn as he is with the triangle has adjusted.

He's been pretty good in Orlando and repeatedly I was told "he just plays the right way all the time. All the time. It doesn't translate here (Summer League) because this is bullsh*t basketball. But this guy can play. He'll be in the league."

Bonus: They openly admit they may have the worst Summer League team ever and that most of their guys have no shot at the NBA.

So, again, not really anything earth shattering maybe, but some stuff I heard that I wanted to share.

Smitty, Great post! Thanks for sharing info we would never get from the beat writers. I agree w/Baker, you could see he had basketball "smarts" even during the first 2 games where he struggled. Plumlee supposedly has a full guarantee, did they say anything about him going forward? Seems like he needs D-League seasoning & is already 24. And,lastly, did they make any comments on Randle? He seems to be someone who would be a good fit w/the second team, given his quickness & shooting ability. Thanks again for sharing this info!

They see him as 100% the star of the franchise, beyond even Carmelo Anthony. As soon as this year, they hope to start to transition the team to being Porzingis' team.

wow, really fantastic info man. much appreciated.

Curious about some things:

1. did they mention anything about Noah mentoring KP and his attitude hopefully rubbing off a little?
2. does Phil realize that he reached for Grant, or was that someone else saying that?
3. what did they like so much about Galloway? cause he tailed off pretty hard at the end last year.
4. did they say if they see Baker as a PG or SG?

again, thanks so much for posting this. awesome insights.

1. Not really anything that specific. Just in general his attitude and defense are welcome additions.

2. It wasn't from Phil on Grant.

3. They just love his attitude and how he kind of came from out of nowhere to become a rotation player.

4. Both. More PG than SG, but they think he can play off the ball because of ability to shoot.

One thing I want to be clear about is that the NY beat guys I have met this week have all been really great guys. They are in a FAR tougher position than I am because they are around the team daily and they have to be careful what they say. The worst thing that can happen to a beat guy is have his access cut off. That basically ends a career.

Also, because of the paper component, they only have so much space. And random thoughts about a guy like Ron Baker won't really move the needle.

That was my nice way of saying, don't give them such a hard time for not posting stuff sometimes. That is a pretty hard job. I certainly wouldn't want it. Well, I would, but you know what I mean! :)

Cheers, he should be our 3rd PG in roster then

Really appreciate this, great info. That has to be the most and-one'd post on the Knicks board from a poster with so much Boston under their screenname ever lol. You've made history!

They are also in the most fickle media market in the world. Only people on RealGM are crying for substance. That's not what the casual observer is interested in.

Casual observer wants to know how long KP and Melo's phone conversations last. Do they only text and never call? Is Porzingis quietly harboring resentment towards Melo for wearing a headband after the age of 30? Triangle? Triangle? Acute Triangle? Obtuse?

Ha! I wish, but doubtful. I won't have the access to the team on any sort of regular basis. And I certainly don't have a relationship where I could just call or text a guy. Maybe some day, but not today.

KP this your team boy, boy.

A lot of interesting to tidbits, the Grant thing was interesting. So it's something me & others peeped (Capn, GONYK) that he was trash early and he had no future with the team even with him playing decent later in the season.

We already took a shot on one injured guy and Melo isn't always healthy either. Why would we add a walking injury to the mix?"

Lmaooooooooooooooooo that bluntness. Love you Melo, EG you cool but that's facts.

Grant's play was suspect from the jump. I didn't like how people kept blaming everybody but Grant for his poor play.

Grant really didn’t seem like a reach at the time. Seemed like he was one of the better players left and PG was a huge need. It was about where he was projected. Most people thought it was a good pick.

He didn’t look good for most of the year, but it’ll be interesting to see how he does in a different system. I wouldn't totally write him off just yet.
