Biyombo Introductory Presser/Hennigan & Vogel interview

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Thu Jul 7, 2016 8:13 pm

For those who don't follow me on Twitter, the Magic announced the Biyombo signing today and did his introductory press conference. It was also the first time that Rob Hennigan and Frank Vogel have spoken with the media since all the action, so they got a bunch of general questions. Here is the series of tweets on what they had to say.

The biggest news is that they intend to start Aaron Gordon at SF and Biyombo and Vucevic will compete for the starting C spot.

Wow thank you great summary!
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

No one asked in this one. It was mentioned that Gordon has been working hard on his game.

Around the gym, off the record, they say Gordon has been shooting at least 500 jumpers a day because he wants to be a SF.

Not much has been said about Payton at all. To the point that it is starting to get curious. Especially when the heap praise on Augustin.

Did Biyombo say anything about Vucevic or competing for the starting spot?

This is seriously some of the best insight amd coverage we've had about the team from within the boards. Thanks mate. Let's make this a regular thing!

Biyombo didn't say anything about Vucevic in particular. He just talked about wanting to come in and compete. He repeatedly mentioned how excited he is to play next to Ibaka. So, I think he has every intention of starting.

Biyombo needs to start in order for us to be great.

What is Aaron Gordon's official weight? His muscle mass and definition looks much improved. He looks like the vanilla version of Lebron!

Can you ask Rob if he is done for this summer or if there are minor tweaks still to be done

All I want to hear from Biyombo is how he and Ibaka want to play together for many many years.

He's been in LA working out and trying to make that shot and release point more fluid. All of our guys are pretty hard workers so I think reporters asking about working on shot is a bit fruitless because that doesn't mean it'll translate to the NBA. I'm glad all of our guys are hard at work in the gym. He even accompanied Vogel and Hennigan on a few FA signings including Biyombo.

I think you're looking a bit too much into the Payton stuff from what I've read, but I really appreciate the information nonetheless. Not that the coaching/management shouldn't be concerned about the development about any of our players, just that the theme of confidence is something they've tried to build with Vogel and gone away from with Skiles. It'll be nice to see what a year under Vogel can do for a lot of these young players and how they are viewed around the league.

That was asked and he said they are basically done for now. They have used the majority of their cap space. They'll keep looking and if an opportunity presents itself to add to the roster they will.

He didn't say "many years" but he said he's known Serge for years and that was part of the reason he wanted to come to Orlando was to play with him.

Biyombo and Vuc fighting for starting C spot is great. Hopefully it lights a fire under Vuc to bring the hustle on defense.

I'd prefer Biyombo to start, and I suspect he will, but a better defensive version of Vuc as starter is still something to be excited about.

Is there video of Biyombo and Augustin pressers? I don't see them on the Magic website. I did watch Fournier and Green's.
