A few things:

Mozgov (if healthy) is perfectly suitable for a Bogut-type role, aside from the passing ability. What we need from him is to play 25 mpg, anchor the defense, and set good screens. He played that in the finals just a year ago. He did well.

I don't see what's so awful about what's essentially an $11M contract for a guy who may only need to play 25mpg.

As for Deng, we could very well start Ingram at SF to start the year, but if they want to ease him in, then we might only need Deng to start for a couple of months. If Ingram can't start and Deng is so awful guarding SFs then I believe Randle or Nance are quick enough to do so on defense. And don't forget Anthony Brown.

Regardless, Deng will be an improvement over our wing defenders from last season.

The bogut role...
You mean, the play for 4 mins and sit the rest of the game role?
Mozgov had the game of his life... Then promptly was benched for the rest of the finals. Slow plodding centers are done in the NBA. I have zero faith in mozgov.

And for deng...
If you are expecting deng to come in and be a wing defender... You are going to have a bad time.

I wanted an athletic center. Run/jump/dunk center
I wanted a defensive wing

I really wanted Kent bazemore. Who would have been perfect to start at SG, having the ability to defend 1-3.

Bazemore took less money than deng
I didn't feel like small ball 4 was a need. (Randle needs big mins and nance is a good prospect)

These lineup changes are terrible
And we still have a hole at starting center and SG

...you realize that we offered Bazemore the same deal we offered Deng and he still took less money to re-sign with ATL, right?

So what's the point other than complaining that the Lakers didn't sign the guy you wanted?

Lakers should have offered more to bazemore.

After theougholy looking through the free agents, I thought bazemore was the best fit by far! By far!!!

My point is the lakers still badly need a defensive wing who can guard 1-3 and preferably start at SG. Russell and clarkson are sieves one Defense, and I don't want to have 18 year old Ingram as our best wing defender.

Looking for the next jae crowder or aminu

I also would 100% rather have say, dakari Johnson at center than mozgov. He is 10 years younger.
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Did we get rid of sacre and Kelly?

Yessir, they are officially off the books. No way Mitch is resigning those two.

Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

Will probably look like this to start the season. I'd like to see us move Williams and have Ingram start at the two with Clarkson moving to the bench or Igram starting at the 3 over Deng but we'll see what happens.

Russell - Calderon - Huertas
Clarkson - Williams
Deng - Ingram - Brown
Randle - Nance
Mozov - Black - Zubac

The only way it happens is if Russell tells his agent to go to hell and puts it out there that the ONLY team he will sign an extension with is the Lakers... And that makes no sense.

We'd need a lot of help from another team or teams to land Westbrook, I think.

Whoever trades for Westbrook is going to want assurance that he is willing to resign with them. That said, why would he want to resign with us if we gut our team for him? Wouldn't he rather just want to wait for the offseason to sign with us as a better team?

Exactly! Why give up our young guys for a guy, a superstar mind you, when there is an EXCELLENT chance we could get him next summer nothing? Now that Durant bailed on him, there is no reason he wouldn't want to come home. His wife is from LA too, I think. If I was to give up anybody, it would be Russell...that's it. I know that wont be enough to get Westbrook. But can you imagine Westbrook and Clarkson on the same team with Ingram coming into his own?????
Westbrook and Clarkson on the same backcourt would be amazing. It would be a handful for any team to deal with.

Ingram / Deng / Brown
Randle/ Deng / Nance Jr/
Black / Mozgov / Zubac

Give the kids 30+ each game and hope for the best.

After watching the scrimmage videos if Larry Nance can hit 33% of his 3s doesn't that make him almost the perfect small ball 5. Hes long athletic and a good help defender. Not saying he should get a lot of mins at C but 5-10 a game could be refreshing.

Would rather see Black and Bass as small ball 5's, though Jr. could do that as well. (As WVLakerfan notes above)

But if we only can use Deng as a 4, WTF?

Russ/Jose/Huertas is a good PG list - pretty slack defensively.

Have to hope we can land Ezeli when GS releases him

Doesn't sound like we'll sign Bass again. Lakers seem content to go with a 3 man front court rotation of Mozgov/Randle/Nance with Tarik Black filling in the remainders and possibly Zubac.

Pretty thin if injuries do strike, which they will. Would love to see Bass back.

Also, Ezeli will not be signing. I feel pretty confident in saying that.

PG - Clarkson (32) - (Russell)
SG - Russell (32) - Williams (23)
C - Mozgov (25) - Black (15)
PF - Randle (31) - Nance (24)
SF - Deng (32) - Ingram (26)

If it were my team, I'd bring Randle off the bench (with the same minutes), start Deng at PF, and sign a 3&D SF to start (in name only) using all of Black's 15 minutes per game, but, as it stands, this would be my nine-man rotation and minute distribution.

In addition to a defensive 3&D wing, this squad really needs a more defensive replacement for Lou Williams. He's never been a good defensive fit with Clarkson and Russell.

Finally! Woohoo! Kelly should go to Houston. He should strive there.

Pg - Russell/Calderon /Huertas
SG- Clarkson/Williams/Young
SF- Deng/Ingram/Brown
PF - Randle/Nance
C- Mozgov/Black/Zubac

14 on the roster until we waive Nick.

Wondering why we haven't officially signed Ingram though... Or have we already?

Maximizing cap space. Same reason Tarik Black hasn't signed his new contract.

Isn't Ingram's cap hold essentially the same as his year one salary? It definitely make sense on Black's though, as his new salary is about 5m more than his cap hold.

I believe his cap hold the standard salary ($4.4Mish I believe), but most rookies sign for 120% of that which is the most amount allowed via the CBA. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got from the CBA FAQ.

im sold on zubac and would like to groom him as a possible future mainstay center for us.

another guy that's quite impressive is that auguste guy. id stash him in the dleague and let him take over black/sacre's role. seems like he can play both 5 or 4 spots. im interested to see more of this dude.
