Barbosa and Dudley signings are solid because they are known quantities. They tick all the boxes we have right now. We know from experience:
- they are great chemistry guys
- they know their limitations as players and won't expect to be starters or be upset with minutes (Knight)
- they are willing to help the young guys and are not just talking the talk for a payday (like Chandler).
- they would ever speak out in the media about being unhappy in their roles.
We now have at least one short term starter/ bench level veteran at SG/ SF/ PF/ C and I expect Price to return once more moves are made.
Price, Barbosa, Tucker, Dudley, Chandler**. Bench guys happy to play 40 minutes or 14 minutes.
The rest of the roster is loaded up with youth and young up and coming vets, all of which seem to be happy except for Knight, Archie and **Chandler.
We are overloaded with young guard talent right now so I can see Knight and Archie being jettisoned for a future pick - we don't really need any more players right now and doubtful we could accommodate with appropriate playing time.
**The only alternative I can see right now is if we package them with Chandler to upgrade the veteran big spot. I question Tyson's receptiveness to be that veteran mentor and certainly don't see him in the same light as I see Duds, Barbs, Price and even PJ.
In addition, 2 of our young bigs haven't even proven they are ready to play yet, so while they will get some development time, I think getting a big that can still play and start alongside Alex and also play with Dudley would be a considerable upgrade. A big that can play will help our young guards too.
So I'm thinking either:
Knight, Archie for pick/s Laker pick returned?)
Or
Knight, Chandler, Archie exchanged for Horford
He seems like a level headed vet. Can start at PF next to Alex and play C next to any one of Dudley/ Bender/ Chriss. As an FA I'm unsure if Horford can be s&t'ed but with all this cap space floating around I'm sure there would be a way to make it work.
Bledsoe, Price, Ulis
Booker, Barbosa, Jenkins
Tucker, Warren,
Horford, Bender, Dudley
Len, Chriss, Williams
Good team now, great team in 5 years. All high humble, high character guys. A team you can easily root for. Balanced and set up for the future.
