Laker agree to two year deal w/ Huertas

Post#1 » by Mamba Mentality » Thu Jul 7, 2016 11:52 pm

Restricted free-agent guard Marcelo Huertas has agreed on a two-year deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told The Vertical.

Huertas, 33, completed his first NBA season after a 14-year career in South America and Europe. For the Lakers, Huertas averaged 4.5 points and 3.4 assists in 53 games.

Really thought we would let him walk after acquiring Calderon...

Lakers PG is now officially a five headed hydra. The NBA has never seen a small-ball lineup like this.

Like I said, crazy, I just don't think they see the need (for a defensive guard).

Like the Lou Williams signing last summer, this just doesn't make too much sense at all.

I'm growing quite callous, actually.

One thing is for sure, our backcourt defense will be torn to pieces night after night.

But we will move the ball around so I guess that will be fun to watch.

To be fair, they did try to acquire Bazemore. But yeah.

Regardless, some of the best play I saw last year was with Huertas on the court. Any dude who plays with heart like he does is okay by me. As I said in the other thread, specialists are needed and welcome, but we'll live and die by our young core's defense.

We have insane depth at the 1/2 and 4/5 right now... Honestly, if I didn't know better, I'd say we're gearing up to trade some combination of our young guys.

For some odd reason I felt really comfortable with Huertas as the ball handler in whatever offense Byron was trying to run. I'm thinking he'll be 3rd string PG for us. If Calderon goes down, at least we don't lose the ball facilitator we need in the 2nd unit. I just hope he's been working on his shot at least.

Oh woooooo! Get to see me some Alley oop's from Huertas in a run n gun style - the question is who is he going to throw them too and who can get up there and finish it? He was passing too much to Bass last season.

I think Russell's going to be our version of a 2 this year. He's probably going to start next to Calderon who will be there for shooting, or maybe next to Clarkson who will be a playmaker...
But I think some combination of Huertas, Clarkson, Calderon are going to start next to Russell, not back him up.

Odd that we sign him. I wonder if it was too late to rescind the QO. With Huertas and Calderon, I also wonder if they wanted true point guards backing up Dlo. Honestly, I expect one of them to be gone by mid season.

I'm sorry, but we should have no business building around Mozgov , Deng , Jose , or Marcelo.

Everything you post seems to take a leap of logic to follow and comes out of left field...
Who said anything about building around those guys?

In fact, don't respond to that... I know where this is going.

You're every post is pretty much the definition of trolling... Not sure it matters that you call yourself a Lakers fan.
