Gay, McLemore, Koufos Available...Trade for Tobias and Baynes?
Tobias and Baynes
for
Gay, McLemore, Koufos
Kings move on from Gay who took a paycut to play for Malone and was checked out once Malone was fired. Tobias is younger and Baynes expires after this season so they save money on Koufos. Hard to replace a starting SF in Gay with one on a reasonable contract in Tobias so Kings have to give up McLemore. Dumping Gay and Koufos is one thing but getting actual quality players in return while saving money would be a huge win for Vlade and also help ease the sting of losing Gay with Cousins.
Pistons get their go to scorer for their starting line up in Gay and a solid back up for KCP. Some teams are paying 13-15M for a back up center we will be paying Koufos and Marjanovic a combined 15M which is very reasonable.
Reggie / Ish
KCP / McLemore - Hilliard
Gay / Stanley - Bullock
Mook / Leur
Drummond / Marjanovic - Koufos
Nice starting line up with EIGHT quality bench players (everyone except maybe Hilliard/Bullock has consistently produced on other teams)
Gay and Koufos have affordable bargain deals
Id be more interested in seeing the battle for SG spot bw KCP and McLemore. I think with both in their contract years looking to get paid we would have tremendous competition and production bw the two.

Well Tobias IMO is/going to be a better player than Gay, so whats the point of this trade?
I'd take a flier on McLemore as a back up SG, but that's about it.

Re: Gay, McLemore, Koufos Available...Trade for Tobias and Baynes?
I don't get it.
Rudy Gay averaged 17.1 ppg on 14.4 fga. 6.4 boards, 1.7 assists in 34 minutes. 15.5 PER.
Tobias Harris averaged 14.7 ppg on 11.6 fga. 6.7 boards, 2.2 assists in 33 minutes. 16.2 PER. (full season numbers -- better in DET)
I do give Gay a slight edge defensively, but not much. These players are nearly dead even, as Harris is clearly a more efficient offensive player.
Why would we possibly want to do this? To pay more salary for lesser production? To get out of Harris' declining contract that's a massive bargain two and three years from now?
Baynes for Koufos and Mac does nothing for us. Mac sucks, by the way.

Pistons take off and play winning ball after Tobias is added to the starting lineup. Trade him after only a part season look for an aging moody malcontent known for his inconsistency? The spare parts aside, this seems too great a gamble. I'm not sure Gay actually improves the Pistons, and certainly not in the long run.

I don't even understand this trade. It's bad all around. I mean some trades are just wacky as your asking for a gold nugget in exchange for a chicken nugget, and a small fry but this trade?
Why would I give up an ignet of silver for a piece of pig iron?
WTF?

On the brightside at least Lou Williams isn't included in this trade idea.
FMD it blows my mind how people expect to go from captastic to contender by constantly turning over key pieces every week, month, off-season.
There's a reason Van Bower locked up the roster, actually lotso reasons.
If you don't know why then heaven help us cause it's still early July!

McLemore hasn't shown much in 3 years, if anything he regressed last season. Harris is better than Rudy, and Koufos/Baynes is basically a wash.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I don't like Harris. While he might be decent in the starting lineup right now, within the next year and a half, I see him becoming the weakest link in the starting 5 once Stanley takes over at the 3. Harris is extremely weak defensively as a 4 and while his offense is solid, it's not enough to carry the offense. We need a second player who can carry the team when Reggie isn't on his game, or is getting shut down (Cavs series), and I don't see Harris being the answer.

Your over thinking it. If harris, whos true position is sf anyway, is struggling at starting pf, you simply move him to the bench as the 6th 7th man and off the bench he can play sf or play pf due to my belief that harris can/should be able to do his thing against other teams fowards that come off the bench. Dont trade him though. He had his 1st playoff experience after getting traded at the deadline. Just like how Reggie got a full year under his belt in detroit this past season, i say we give harris the same patience. Im still mad about his postseason play against Cleveland but im looking at the bigger picture.
As far as i see it right now, i feel as though we're stacked, to a certain degree. We have small ball lineups, big lineups, defensive lineups. Got rid of some weak links from last year (meeks, blake, tolliver) and replaced them with good players for our system. They just have to gell and develop chemistry but i dont think we should have matchup problems from any team this season based on size. I think starting ellenson with drummond is the way to go right now. Ellensons iq is great and with his skill set + consistency we can possibly see an improved starting lineup. Plus adding harris to the bench automatically makes our bench that much more stronger.

I don't think we can start ellensn right now. If he has a very short leash maybe, but may hurt confidence. If we didn't make the playoffs last year then maybe too. I hope he gets a lot of run in pre season thoStunnaStan wrote:epheisey wrote:I guess I'm in the minority here. I don't like Harris. I like Harris at PF over SF. Mook is a perfect bench player. He can catch fire

I would trade Lueur and Baynes for him, but I don't think that's possible right now.

I'm assuming you mean Gay, and this really surprises me. Our lack of depth for real bigs was a team problem last season. We are loaded with guys who can play the 3. The team fixed this deficit in the off season and now you propose trading two bigs for another 3? Respectfully, I'm confused as to how this could be in the team's best interest.

Re: Gay, McLemore, Koufos Available...Trade for Tobias and Baynes?
I guess I got way too excited lol. On the general board, Celtics, Cavs fans, and Pacers fans all want this guy and it was more of a reaction to block those teams from getting him. Gay averaged around 19 ppg the past 3 years so I thought he could be productive for us, but then I remembered how much better the Raptors got after ditching him and how much better we got after ditching Josh Smith so I guess you guys are right in not wanting this guy.
Leuer is a big that can spread the floor without demanding the ball which is something we need and Baynes is the best backup center in the league so together they are way too valuable to give up for a guy like Gay. Still I would take him if we could somehow magically trade him for a guy at the end of the bench or something.
