Environment w/ the Media
One general thing I wanted to add is that everyone who is a regular here says that they have seen a noticeable change with how Rob Hennigan is interacting with the media and that it really started with the Draft. He's being a lot more open and more personable.
One guy (who I trust) speculated that came from on high that he needed to be better about it.
And Vogel is night and day from Skiles. I hadn't been around Hennigan much, but I had been around Skiles quite a bit. He was tough to deal with. Very cliche and like he wanted to be anywhere else. Putting my Pats fan hat on, it was Belichick-like but missing the results and the insight.
Vogel is very different. He's very open to talking strategy (even if it is somewhat limited at this point), personnel, and he jokes around a lot. Several of the players have commented that it has been great having him around.
Part of the speculation on Hennigan coming out of his shell some is Vogel being here.
My personal read is that the Magic finally have two guys in Hennigan and Vogel who are on the same page and want to work together. And they both really want to be in Orlando. You can tell that Hennigan wasn't a fan of Skiles and didn't really want him. No one is saying it, but that move came from higher up than him. He missed on Vaughn and they took his choice away from him. This time around, he (they really) got their guy in Vogel.
I think the Magic have made some curious decisions, but we need to see it on the floor before it can be judged. I think the Magic are in great hands. I love the environment and the entire vibe the franchise is giving off. Everyone is excited this time of year, but it is palpable here in Orlando for the first time in a long time.

Yeah we've pretty much all thought that as fans. It was pretty much confirmed when Alex Martins made a point to say things like "We (upper management) didn't want to influence the decision" right after the hire. When you are preemptively trying to deflect criticism you know there is criticism to be levied.

Actually plenty of fans denied there was any friction between Skiles & management, and that Skiles not being Rob's choice was nothing but a conspiracy theory. Pretty funny looking back lol

Lol fair enough. I forget about the "pro coach" crowd. But a lot of us knew. I remember saying those words when the hire went down... "That's a RDV hire." And let's face it, Harris was a Skiles/RDV trade. One wonders where'd we be if mgmnt would have stayed out of it.

Thanks for sharing! Yes, I agree with the Skiles chemistry. It was not RH's decision and it showed. Vogel in the other hand is the complete opposite. Those two look like best friends every time I see a conference. Its great to see that GM + Coach relationship off to a good start. Something we did not have with Skiles. If anything it was more like tension and frustrations.

Says a lot about Rob as a GM that a guy like Frank believe's in him that much.

Thanks I really like your insight on the Magic. Now I can't wait to see what Rob can do now that he has his roster and his coach. We can accurately judge the risks he's taking and the future outlook he has on the roster. I really hope the higher ups don't meddle as much in the decisions in the roster since it limits the job he is asked to do.

I wanna address the first bit.
You start off like we're at the end of a long conversation. I'm not familiar with your posts, as I only frequent the Magic forum, so I'm not sure if this is your style, not complaining, you just had me looking like the Pulp Fiction Travolta meme...
I've watched every pressers since the Vogel hire and I haven't noticed any change in Hennigan's approach, so I'm wondering if this is coming from your interactions or conversations with individuals in "the know" at a personal level.
All around great news for a magic fan, hopefully their strong relationship will help the team get through the tough days and stop another mid season collapse, thank you for sharing.
let paid professionals do their job, don't you try and do it for them...

It was more meant as a tag on to the Summer League Notes thread. Agreed that it was a poor start.
Hennigan was very, very different in today's presser. He was much more open and relaxed. He generally does not give much beyond cliches (We're excited, we love his game, etc.), but today he was talking strategy and long term vision.
And off the record, he's barely talked with the media. Today he was very good to chat with. He was almost jovial. You can tell they are very happy with the way this summer has gone.

I think with hennigan is more excitement. He got an outstanding coach pulled a trade for a very solid player who could be star given more oppurtunities and finally got some of the Free agents he has wanted and his vision is coming together
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

I think you forgot the green font. Around here Rob sucks and wishes he was on Otis level. And Frank is a poor man's Scott Skiles.

Re: Environment w/ the Media
Rob just got his first relevant "Name Brand" player (Serge) and another player that was recently effective at the level we're trying to play on with BB. This is easily the most talented roster he put together in his career, and may have saved his job. Not to mention that Vogel had a big role in helping him land Biz
