The UFC judges seem to finally not be giving an inordinate amount of credit to take downs that don't lead to quality submission attempts or quality strikes. Take downs mean very little if nothing of consequence happens afterwards, at least IMO.

This isn't wrestling it's fighting.

It eventually aired on TSN5 but they decided on continuing to broadcast of the CFL game (it went to overtime) despite it being on the rest of the other channels. Surprisingly, FN was airing the broadcast until 10:30.

Great main event though... cardio was the difference maker there. I thought Gadelha won the first fight between the two, but no problems with the decision here. Gadelha had nothing left after the first two rounds.

I skimmed through the main card, but I enjoyed the fights I stopped to watch.

Choi starting out strong in the UFC with 3 first round KOs. Was getting controlled but never in any real danger.

I thought Brooks vs. Pearson was really good. Brooks should be a good addition to the LW division, as he brings a style not a lot of guys have at this point. Alvarez should fight Ferguson or Khabib next, maybe Brooks can fight the other. If not, the winner of Gil/Barboza (which I didn't realize was a thing) maybe? Chiesa or Poirier would work too. And those are just the guys coming off wins. There are a lot of possibilities.

JJ vs. Gadelha was great. It was probably the fight I was most looking forward to this weekend, and it will take something big to knock it off the top spot. Scorecards were a bit weird, but I'm glad judges are becoming more willing to give out 10-8 rounds. However it does seem like they are getting almost too willing to throw them around in championship fights and still not quite willing enough to put them in 3 rounders. I thought post fight Gadelha was still talking **** in an indirect way, and reading about the post-fight press conference and interviews, it seems that is the case. Being down 0-2 is gonna make it tough to get another shot, but she could very easily be the second best in a division without much star power. The winner of Rose vs. Kowalkiewicz likely gets the next shot, and I'd favour her heavily against either of them. Thug Rose vs. Joanna Champion would be a lot of fun though.

The Brooks - Pearson fight was so damn skillful, I thought it put Jed vs Gadelha to shame. The women's skill level was really poor, relatively speaking. The talk about Jed being among the best strikers pound-for-pound is ridiculous. Gadelha threw nothing but wide 1-2s, hit Jed way more than she should have.

McCarthy almost cost that TUF woman her bowel retention standing behind her while she was being darsed. Her hands - with which she was tapping - were not visible to him at all. He was peering at God knows what. Had to tap with her feet.

Gadelha is the best women's strawweight in the world for 2 rounds. Impressive ability from Jed to outlast her.
