Magic Sign Steven Zimmerman

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Fri Jul 8, 2016 5:33 am

Everyone,

Kinda lost in the scuffle today is that The Magic formally signed second round pick Steven Zimmerman.

http://www.nba.com/magic/news/orlando-magic-sign-stephen-zimmerman/

He looks really good and it's like having a mid to late first round pick on the roster.

The roster now stands at 13 if you assume they keep Devyn Marble.

They might sign one more big of the bench and it's not out of the question they keep 15 if someone impresses in camp but the roster you see now is pretty much the one we will see this season.

Happy for Invader Zim. The kid has talent and definitely deserves a chance. He has a long ways to go, especially in the weight room, but I think he can be a really good player someday. I do wonder if the deal is guaranteed or not, but I'm sure it doesnt matter because he'll most likely spend a lot of time down in the D-League. I wonder if any of the other Summer League guys get contracts, or at least get camp invites. I feel pretty confident Marble will be on the team next season, but I'm hoping that guys like Garino, Onuaku, and maybe even Nick Johnson are at training camp.

Did we sign him to a camp deal or signed him outright?

i'm guessing if Zimmerman comes along and the Magic really like Zimmerman, they would really look for an approriate trade for Nikola for an all star point guard in return. I'm getting the sense Zimmerman is eventually to be the 3rd big man behind Ibaka and Biyombo.

As it stands right now, he's the 4th Big man behind Ibaka, Biyombo and Nikola, so Zimmerman only gets playing time due to injury, game is a blowout or Nikola is traded.

I don't hold too much hope for this kid. Hope he proves me wrong.

Can this guy even practice against Biyombo and Ibaka? They might break him in half

Did any of you guys watch this dude play? He is clearly going to get bigger, as all NBA players do. The main point is that he is very balanced. I think his last game he went 12/12 with 5 blocks. 1 year in Dleague, and I bet we hear some real nice stat lines while he is down there.

As it stands right now, let's see first if he can even crack the rotation before we start talking about him replacing Vuc, who is arguably in the top 3 players of this team.

so explain how Zimmerman is getting playing time if there's no injury, blowout game or Nikola got traded. Only 5 guys off our bench will get playing time(Biyombo, Augustin, Green, Mario and Meeks) because we are going with a 10 man rotation. Sorry to say Zimmerman is not a part inside our top 10 on our roster, but at least he'll be on the 15 man roster in case of injury, blowout game or someone gets traded.

Think it was more the part where we trade Vuc and use Zim as our 3rd big. The him not getting playing time is kind of common sense.

Kids a long way off from producing in the NBA. He has legit concerns that he can't add serious mass due to his arm injury.

He isn't getting PT if there isn't an injury. He likely wouldn't even get PT in a blowout...because he will probably be in the D-League. Even if we became plagued by injuries, I would expect us to sign a random vet FA before we give Zimm meaningful burn. He was a second rounder for a reason. Down the road, he could be useful but he is no where close to that point right now. I like what I see in the guy but he is not NBA ready.

it's going to be great for him to be featured on the d-league team....gets to learn the terminology and be immersed in an environment where it's basketball all the time, no classes. Hennigan might have something here, zim is a first round talent it all rests on how he can build up his body/strength.

His arms do some weird things. He looks double jointed at the elbow or something.
