The real fireworks began in the middle of the third inning, when McClendon got into a loud, animated dugout argument with Gose, who was promptly pulled from the game and banished from the dugout.
McClendon would not discuss removing Gose from the game; Gose had cleared out his locker following the contest.
While Jones returned to the Mud Hens lineup for the second game, Gose did not.
Chad Huffman said the dugout dust did not play a role in the offensive outburst.
“I don't think one necessarily leads to the other,” he said. "Everyone here is focused, and everyone is a professional.
“Everyone is ready to play no matter what happens.”

TORONTO -- A reported dugout spat involving Anthony Gose at Triple-A Toledo has resulted in the Detroit Tigers outfielder being sent home.
The Tigers aren't saying much right now, and manager Brad Ausmus called it concerning Sunday before the team played it series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays (1:07 p.m., FSD).
"Anytime a player reacts that way to the manager, it's concerning," Ausmus said. "It's certainly not anything that can't be dealt with or gotten past."
John Wagner of the Toledo Blade on Saturday reported Gose, optioned to Triple-A Toledo in mid-May, got into a shouting match with Mud Hens manager Lloyd McClendon during the first game of a scheduled doubleheader with the minor-league team.
McClendon pulled Gose in the third inning of the game and, according to Wagner, banished him from the dugout. Gose did not play in the second game of the doubleheader and his stall in the clubhouse was empty after.
"It happens," Chadd said. "It's happened here, it's happened with other clubs. It's heat of the moment. It happens in all sports. There's competitive frustration in everybody, and that's probably what came out."
This is the latest episode in Gose's free-fall since being moved to Toledo. He's hitting .185 with 11 extra-base hits, a .521 OPS and 75 strikeouts in 184 at-bats.
Gose recently had his spot in centerfield taken with the promotion of JaCoby Jones. Since then, he's rotated between the three outfield spots and served as designated hitter.
