Looks like a little more competition at the scoring combo guard spot. Still looking for a backup actual PG. one year deal. No mention on money. Could be this year's Toney Douglas?

Pacers in advanced talks with Aaron Brooks

Could be a nice scoring punch off the bench, similar style to Joe Young. Also, both went to Oregon.

You guys beat me to it.

I like the player. Reminds me of former Pacers player Travis Best.

I'd be pretty shocked if he's this year's Douglas. Would just seem unlikely he'd have to take a non-guaranteed camp deal. I'm guessing this is it for Shane after another poor SL stint.

The Star is repeating the rumor which should mean they have two sources.

Ellis/Stuckey
George/Miles
Young/Niang
Turner/Jefferson
Paul George is a superstar. Deal with it

Though Brooks could be reliable, I think Young has the chance to take over the key reserve role in the PG spot. I see Brooks only as an insurance if Young should falter.

Mom told me don't use the word hate lightly so I am going to say I really don't like this team as currently constructed. The addition of Brooks would make me like it even less.

I dunno, its not how i see it at all. To me, i think they like Young but know he still needs more time to develop and learn, thus signing Brooks to a 1-year deal.

Last season, Brooks played 16 minutes per game in the NBA [1108 total minutes]. Scored 7 ppg while shooting 40% from the field and 36% from 3pt range.

Meanwhile, Young played 9.4 min per game [384 total minutes], shooting 37% and just 22% from behind the arc.

For his career, Brooks is a 37% three-pt shooter.

I like Young as a player, and think he may be one of those out of left field Bird finds and play a decent role for this season, but i think he's still got a long way to go before he can be counted on. And i don't see any possible way of how Young gives us a better chance of winning over Brooks.

I wouldn't worry too much, we're talking about a back-up 1. The back-up 1 doesn't make or break a defense.

I think this is right for a 10 man rotation but I'd be surprised if Niang gets as many minutes as Stuckey and Miles and as a rookie he might even be behind Lavoy.

I expect we'll see a three man 4/5 rotation with Jefferson coming in for TYoung and Turner sliding to the four and later TYoung coming back in for Turner.

So it looks like Lawson is out.

Am I missing something here? Last year the point guard minutes went to George Hill, Monta Ellis and on a situational basis Joe Young. Sub in Teague for Hill and what has changed? Seems to me that Monta is a better alternative for the back up pg minutes than Brooks. Stuckey and or Miles getting more than standard backup minutes at sg and sf would seem fine too.

Makes me wonder if Pacers have become disillusioned with Young or if there is some merit to the Ellis for Gay trade rumors.

I think you are reading too much into the signing of a backup. I always want three point guards on the roster to deal with injuries and foul trouble. I remember a playoff series back in the pre-Reggie days which we lost largely because we only had two point guards and one was out. Brooks is good insurance even if Young has successfully transitioned from SG to PG.

It's probably for the best. I'm sure he wasn't happy when we acquired Teague because he wants to start. I really hope he can recapture what he had.

Brooks is a solid b/u. This is much better than Larry's previous attempts to find a b/u 1.

Nah. You might be reading too much into it. The two backups at the 1 spot are still less likely to play many, if any minutes, as Ellis will likely play a lot of backup 1 minutes himself. So, even if we list a 2 deep with guys at each position, that's not to say that all 10 will get minutes. It's likely that only 9 will get some regular minutes.
