Re: Official NY Mets Thread
You just knew at least one of the starters were going to go down. There was no way all 5 would keep producing ace quality starts. Hopefully that's the real cause of Harvey's problem and he comes back like his usual self in the 2017 season. That's the best you can really hope for.
Wheeler is not likely to return until late August... And it looks like they are going to try to trade for another starter? I really didn't see that coming.
At least Colon stepped up at 43 years old. He's gold. I really thought this man would eventually get replaced by the likes of Montero (lol), Gee (lol), and Niese. But he's staying on par with our young aces now. Well done, big sexy.
I'm not sure what's going on with Matz and Thor health wise. But they keep scaring me. They say Matz will likely get a surgery after this season. And it looks like Thor won't say anything about his arm health so he can keep his badass-image. And DeGrom's average velocity is down, but he's been getting the same results as previously.
Wish they kept Murphy..... Washington landed a pretty decent deal on a utility player who pretty much rebuilt his whole offense for the best. I thought the Mets should have tried to retain him, even after getting Walker because you knew at least Wright was going to miss a lot of games.

Hate to say it, but with Noah and Ces leaving early, I think we have to acknowledge the "Curse of the Murph"
Has there ever been team as injured as this season's Mets? I made a bet with a friend that Murph would bat 300 and hit 20 HRs, so far that bet is looking good.
I am really glad for Harvey that he is getting the surgery he needs. I hate that idiots have been blasting him for his season when it's been obvious since say 1 the effort he gave us last season was impacting him. Next year he will be back to being himself and we all have that to look forward to.

Re: Official NY Mets Thread
For the record, I was all for bringing Murphy back - even with his fielding and base running blunders. The main reason was that I though he'd be a great plan B for 3B for when David Wright would go down. Flores was always a better 2B anyhow. Murph signed a 3 year/$37M contract with the Nats. Only getting paid $8M this year. It's sickening to be quite honest. We had to trade Niese to get one year of Todd Walker who's going to get more than the $12M Murphy will be paid next year.

Neil Walker. It's amazing how the media has changed from "well isn't Walker better than Murphy." The correct answer is BOTH.
Anyhow, I also was a proponent of platooning at 1B with Duda/Wright and now Duda/Daurno so we can really get some good match ups and keep people healthy. Also think we should have gone 6 man rotation out of the gates because right now we have 3 tired aces and Bartolo the All-star. We legit could use Pelf back just to eat some innings for us.
fuggit. Reunion tour. Buy Pelf off of DET. Sign Parnell to a minors deal. Get Johan for lefty specialist. Kidnap the rights to Tatis's son.

Re: Official NY Mets Thread
Lot of fans were trying rationalize not holding Murphy because his Murph-Tober was just a "fluke". But Kevin Long helped Murphy totally revamp his swing and plate approach. It was relevant towards the end of last season and the postseason of course.
But his totally improved batting is not why I wanted to keep him.
One of the reasons I wanted to keep Murphy because he can play all infield positions minus shortstop. He's not great at any of them. But utility players are so important during this time of the season when half the team goes down with injury. Duda and Wright were going down this season. Everybody knew that... And there were no realistic decent backups (Flores? Talks of Plawiki?). That's why I wanted Murphy. So having him would have pretty much guaranteed the Mets winning their division and clinching a playoff spot in a long season.
Heck, I wanted to keep Uribe because I knew Wright was pretty much done.
But I guess the front office put too much hope into Herrera and thought they could put him in at 2B and move Walker at 3B or 1B if needed.
It's a little embarrassing playing with this infield and having to reacquire Kelly Johnson, and on top of that watch Murphy killing it with the Nats on a decent contract.
I'm not that disappointed in trading Niese for Walker. Walker is pretty decent. But acquiring Walker didn't have to mean letting Murphy walk. You can really never have too much depth in NY. And Niese is having a whatever season. It would've been nice to have him as a 5 starter now or a lefty specialist, but I don't think keeping Niese and never getting Walker would've improved this team. I'd rather have Walker tbh.
In the end, not resigning Murphy was a mistake for this season. Let's just hope the compensation pick will be a good one.
It's just so amazing how many problems would've been avoided if the Mets retained him.

I agree. It seemed pretty clear that Murph has turned a corner last October due to Long's work with him.

I don't think the Yankees would make that deal. Miller is one of the best on a good contract too and CC is having a good year. Wheeler is a total ? at this point.
