Lakers believe they can sign Westbrook after the season

Post#1 » by nymets1 » Tue Jul 12, 2016 3:31 pm

For those of you that are watching Espn First take with me, You just saw what i did. "Chris Broussard is quoted as saying Lakers believe they can Russell Westbrook as a free agent after the season and would rather not trade their players for him".

So does this mean now that we have no shot at Westbrook in Orlando? I still can't believe Westbrook would want to the Lakers now or after the season. Obviously the Lakers would be better with Westbrook, maybe they make the playoffs but i don't see them in the top 6 in the playoffs in the WEST. On the other hand, If you come to us, You can make us 2nd best in the EAST and give the Cavs a real fight to perhaps bring us in the NBA Finals. In the WEST, He won't get past the Warriors, and i have doubts of him getting past the Spurs or the Clippers. If his thinking is I want to get as far into the playoffs, Than you need to look at those Eastern Conference teams and just come to us. Not the Celtics, Not the Raptors or anybody else in the EAST BUT US.

Of course they think they can sign him, they're the Lakers.

We have/had no shot of getting him. They have two centers better than Vucevic and we're not gonna trade Mario and AG for a year of Westbrook. Because that's probably what it would take.

Well Westbrook is a LA guy so it wouldn't surprise me if there is mutual interest there. Also, it's the Lakers, I assume they will find their wake back to prominence sooner than later.

When was the last time the Lakers signed a top tier free agent?

The Celtics would represent just as much of a chance to rival the Cavs in East with Westbrook as we would. The Raptors probably not as they already are set in the backcourt with Lowry and Derozan. Lowry is a free agent so if they just simply replace Lowry with Westbrook I am not sure how much better they are and would probably be about the same team. But there are plenty of reasons to believe that Westbrook would go to LA. He is from there and they do have some young talent and they could get better in a hurry by adding Westbrook and maybe making a trade for more talent. So they are a serious threat to sign him as they have been. There is nothing new hear. Broussard is simply stating the obvious and yeah the Lakers should have some confidence there. But it doesn't mean that he is sign sealed and delivered there. There very well could be other teams in the mix and we could be one of them. There is still a lot of time till he actually makes his decision.

Long season. Tons of things can happen. There is nothing to talk about at all this week, so of course 24/7 sports news has to stir the pot.

Lakers believe they can sign every Big Name Free Agent every single off season. And, they have only succeeded once with Shaq and got lucky in a sign n trade with Dwight. Doubt that happens again for them. That is twice in twenty years. Thus, the other 18 years they didn't get anyone.

So you guys think Westbrook plays out his final year in OKC and than signs with the Lakers? If Westbrook goes to the Lakers, He's saying his top priority is not winning. He was surrounded by winning his whole time with OKC. Yea it sounds greats to go home and play in your state but just purposely accept your team is ok or under 500 record team, you think westbrook is fine with that? . Mozgov is not better than Vuc, No bigs on the lakers are better than any our bigs on our team.

I wouldn't say the Lakers got lucky with Dwight, Dwight has been a bust since he left us, He went on the decline since he left us. Grass is not always greener on the site when you go to another team. The worst thing that happened with Dwight is when he left Orlando. He seemed he had everything going for him when Dwight was here.

Lol Vucevic is better than any player on that roster.

When you see "First Take" and "Chris Broussard" it's a pretty clear indicator that it's baseless speculation.

If Ingram shows the slightest bit of potential to be the player people expect, I expect Westbrook to the Lakers to be a done deal next summer.

It's more than just "the Lakers can sign anyone." Westbrook is an LA guy who is tired of OKC. I'm sure he is tired of losing as well, so the Lakers have to make some strides this year but they are the favorites for him.

Although in this case I could actually see it as an intentional leak/message. I'd imagine the Lakers would be willing to trade for him, but they don't want to pay a king's ransom. Floating a message like this preemptively could be an attempt to undermine OKC's bargaining position.
