Once we maxed Beal, there was really no way to get back under the cap next year with him, Wall, Gortat, Morris and Otto (Cap Hold) on the books. So if we used a bunch of cap space this year on 1 year deals, then we would be screwed next year as we would only have the MLE.

I don't think that's true. If we removed all of the new multi-year deals except Beal and Satoransky, here's where I have us:

Beal - 24
Wall - 18
Gortat - 12.7
Morris - 8
Otto - 7.7 (cap hold)
Sato - 3
Oubre - 2

That's only about $75M, leaving us max cap room once the cap goes up again next summer.

Incorrect, Otto's cap hold is 250% of his previous salary ($5,893,981). That means he's at a 14.7M cap hold (Just like Beal was this year). You also have to add in Martell's Dead cap number of 833k and 5 cap holds (2.9M).

After that you come up to 86M, which gives us about 16M in cap space. I blame EG for A WHOLE LOT, but once they decided to re-sign Beal you cant blame them for not wanting to have a repeat of last year with bargain hunting with the sole purpose of having 16M in cap space.

16M in cap space in league with a 102M cap is equal to about 14.7-15M this year. Thats less than what Mozgov, Crabbe, and Bazemore got. Next year, that MIGHT get us one of: Jeff Green, Sullinger, Tyreke Evans, etc.

Hell, Mahinmi just signed for 16M a year. You increase the cap by 10% and compound that with the fact that this years Center class was loaded and next years is TERRIBLE... He could get 4/70-75M if he were a FA. So we wouldnt even have enough to sign him.

Again, If our young core makes the leap, then we are one of a handful of teams that have young stars locked in as well as cap-space/movable assets to get another player. Right now, all I see is:

Boston: Horford, IT, and Crowder. Then a bunch of young assets and picks they could move
Houston: They had a great opportunity, but 20M for Anderson and 13M for Gordon could kill that.
LAL: I like Russell and Ingram, but 34M a year for Deng and Mozgov might hurt too.
Miami: Depends on the Bosh situation, but if he plays then they only have about 10M in capspace.
Bucks: Sleeper. Really depends on Parker this year
TWolves: THE PRIME SPOT. Cornerstone players in Wiggins and Towns. Great Management. Cap space, assets, etc.
Portland: Flushed away a golden opportunity by giving Crabbe/Turner 36M+ per year... esshhh
Orlando: Wild Card. Really depends on what happens with Ibaka

Right now, Only Boston and the Twolves are clearly ahead of us. But Miami has no real direction and Portland threw up all over themselves.
Lakers have young talent, but probably not ready until summer 2018 to make a splash. They have no trade assets without gutting premium, young talent. No pick next year either.
Bucks can make a splash if they get a PG in FA (Jrue, Teague, Hill, etc.). They could be a great spot for Gortat with a swap for Henson.

I'd take Thon Maker over Henson.... If you're going to trade our starting center at least get someone with the potential to be better than him... Henson I doubt will ever reach Marcin's Maker on the other hand is a buy low, type player with exceptional upside and athleticism.....

Wall is right, we do need a wing. Oubre isn't ready. Would have been great to see Sato suit up for Summer League too, but I feel we are putting all our eggs in his basket as a backup to Beal too (who will probably have to start 10 or so games while Beal is out).

We could really use a SF 3&D type veteran, and I'd maybe look at keeping hold of Jarrell Eddie if we have the roster spot.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Right now we have
Wall/Burke/Open
Beal/Tomas/Thornton
Porter/Kelly/Eddie
Morris/Nicholson/Open
Gortat/ian/Smith
We have McCellen and Ochefu signed to not fully garruntted deals, they can be cut for very little at anytime. Eric is playing well, House looks like he could seriously get a look to make the team, the dude plays like a man! It all depends on how scott brooks sees tomas, tomas can play the 1 or the 2 but he is more of a combo 2 guard who can shoot/play D/pass/handle the ball/and create offence. I would keep house I really like him at this point. Tomas can cover PG if needed but I would consider signing another PG as insurance, like vasquez or someone of the like just for insurance. But we should really pick up another big body. Just incase. Jones and hill are still out there, or keep Eric or Ochefu.
So I would keep house and bring another Big or PG in .

Well Brooks on the radio today said Tomas is definitely a pg, and mentioned they can bring him along slowly because they have Wall and Burke.

Wall, Burke, Satoransky
Beal, Thornton
Porter, Oubre
Morris, Nicholson
Gortat, Mahinmi, Smith

Unless I'm missing someone they have 12 locked in with space to add possibly Anderson, Eddie, Ochefu, or someone else. Not sure what they have available to sign anyone else, or what exemptions they might have like the MLE or LLE.
