LamarMatic7 wrote:He gets an unfair rep due to outdated notions about counting stats (rebounds in this case) and their value for big men, as did ending up on the Lakers didn't help his career. There has to be some value in a guy who was an All-Star and one of the best rim protectors in the league just a couple of years ago. 5mil for one year and a back-up slot is a nice bet to see if there is still something in him, even if the NBA is going in another direction, away from plodders like Hibbert.

There is the drawback of him just using us for one year (like, per example, Rondo did with the Kings), playing good and then cashing in but I don't see him as the most likeliest of candidates to use a situation like this. After all, counting stats isn't his strength, he won't get many 10+10s off the bench for us.

With that being said, I wanted to post this song. It's way too harsh, it's totally uncalled for, he's too good of a basketball player but... it is wacky and funny. The Le Batard show has had some gold over the years as far as parody songs are concerned.

Wait, what are you saying about outdated notions? Rebounding? Counting stats? You can't just say that without clarifying... he gets a bad rep because he's bad at nearly everything on the basketball court. There's nothing outdated about guys who stink being labeled bad players

Also, there are zero drawbacks to him signing a 1 year deal. If he plays well that's terrific. I'd much rather tum that "risk" then have him signed to a multiyear deal and find out he's completely unplayable. This guy is significantly more likely to be out of the league in 2 years then he is to experience a career revival.

Even at his apex he was always painfully overrated. He got out to a good start one year but he fell off huge after his hot start

Jamaal Magliore was a more deserving All-Star than this guy.

He got blasted for not rebounding while he actually was good at boxing out his own man, securing the paint and letting guys like Lance fly in and scoop up their own boards (and as we all know about Lance, he's not shy about stealing rebounds from teammates). Indiana usually rebounded better with Hibbert on the floor.

Oh. So i guess Randle was stealing them all last year?

Idk, maybe those facts are correct. This guy is a significantly worse offensive player than biyombo who doesn't rebound or block shots like biyombo. I'm terribly lost as to why on earth of all the players to let go and then sign we chose biyombo to hibbert for likely not a huge difference in pay

I know, I know. Low blow, but seemed to be the downward turning point of his career.

Well, I'm looking forward to seeing what Roy can do with our team. I think he has to have the right fit relative to a team's scheme and strategy. He still has a pretty impressive set of skills for a big guy, particularly defensive. I don't see too many go-to 5's in the league anymore for offense, certainly not in the traditional post up 1on1 and score (sadly). Al was effective at times with this, and Roy should be able to provide some smaller doses of the same. I want rebounds and shot blocking...put-back buckets and occasional hook shots are a bonus.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
