Re: Westbrook: All the shots you want in Orlando
I don't think there's any point in trading for him either. If he wants to join the Magic, he'll sign with us in FA.
Tbh, I don't think getting Westbrook is worth discussing right now. We don't have anything that OKC doesn't already offer imo. This is similar to the Durant situation. Either Westbrook will stay with the Thunder and become an OKC legend, especially after Durant left, or he'll join forces with other established stars. Westbrook isn't a role player like Batum or Ibaka, who value teams where they can have a larger role and fit better. He's already broken out as a star and has his own team.
If Gordon (or someone else on the team) breaks out next season, we'll have a lottery chance at attracting Westbrook in FA. Right now, it's too early to say.

I would imagine Westbrook has interest in us because we got Ibaka, that probably the 1st thing he looks at it. Than our coach, young core, etc.

No, I'm sure he would agree to an extension before the trade kind of like harden/Paul did. If we want him, we better get him now.

How much will he get if he extend, say 5 yrs $165M? Do you think that could be enough for him to stay?

I'm sure he and his agent will want money starting at what harden just got

that is the road to longterm purgatory, if we are really good next year maybe RW looks at us as a UFA but probably not. you don't blow 4 years of rebuilding on a 1 year rental it is illogical
boston is better positioned to trade for him sorry but that's the reality, if he hits the market they can outbid us and not destroy their team
I'm not sure how you can compare Westbrook to *any* of the players the Nets brought in as part of their breakdown. I mean, rebuild.

Wouldn't he get more money by waiting until the cap jumps next year?

Exactly what i was going to say. I doubt he signs an extension as would even be able to sign the max extension with a new team. I think he could get more if he waits a year to do an extension with the new team. I am not sure of the rules here but still I doubt he signs an extension as the cap goes up again and he can get a lot more money by simply waiting for the cap and maxes to go up.

He would also get more money by staying in OKC, but he won't. Just like Durant, he will spin this as a move to play for a good team and win. He wants out, and I doubt anyone trades for him without some form of guarantee. He will take the extension.

Now I'm really confused! The bunch of misfits that Hennigan has cobbled together is appealing enough for Westbrook to agree to an extension with the Magic should they trade for him? Don't tell me it's all about the money. If so why not stay in OKC?

Re: Westbrook: All the shots you want in Orlando
Is it considered Facts or Opinions of why Durant left the Thunder to go to the Warriors because I feel I have 4 facts of why Durant left OKC
1.Because of him and Westbrook on the court, Off the court no issue
2. Because the Thunder were up 3 to 1 on the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, That had to be so deflating to lose that series, they could taste the NBA Finals. Imagine coming back next year and blowing another playoff series, Their psyche, Confidence, Swag would all be damaged.
3. Because of you can't beat the Warriors, might as well join them
4. Durant loves the Warriors style of play

To be clear, I 100% believe we have no shot at Westbrook. I was responding to the notion that we could sign him next summer if we want him.

again I don't think so. It is his decision and not yours. Did Dwight sign an extension before he was dealt? No. Would you pass up on several mill more per year just to sign an extension now. Yeah teams would like to have him sign an extension but that doesn't mean he has to. He has the power there and he doesn't have to bend to any team he is traded too. That may not even be the place where he wants to go. It is OKC's decision to trade Westbrook and where. His value is still high even if he doesn't sign an extension. The acquiring team will know that but they will be paying to get a head start on the recruiting pitch and an advantage in that they will be able to offer him more money next summer. And again why would he pass up all that money when he does not have to?

I think Dwight showed everyone that the "we'll be SO good he won't ever want to leave" plan is foolish. Russ can't have it both ways. He can either have his quick exit, or he can max out his earnings. No one is going to let him do both.

well we will have to wait and see then but I disagree.
