Re: LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!
In a way, he's as direct a lineage to coach John Wooden as we'll find. Hadn't thought of it until I read that quote. John Wooden is a hero of mine. Great to see some of it reflected in Luke. What a trip.

We're not bringing back Tracy Murray

The Lakers did not retain shooting development coach Tracy Murray, according to league sources. Murray worked closely with Randle on improving his jump shot. Murray had a 12-year NBA career, including one season with the Lakers (2002-03).

Randle improved his jump shot? I didn't see it.... maybe that's why he's not being retained.

I hope fans don't turn on Luke if we don't win a lot. I see us winning a lot more games this season, and I'm optimistic about the playoffs...I'm thinking 4th or 5th seed if a few of our young guys turn to stars early on.

Re: LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!
I don't think anyone expects us to win a lot of games.
What I've seen from the coaching staff so far has really impressed me.
Luke seems to have a wonderful grasp of how to communicate and connect with the young guns.
Mermuys has also been terrific. I've watched as many interviews by him as I can find.
He really knows his stuff. His comments are spot on, at least in my view.
Shaw, Madsen, and Buechler will contribute as well.
The biggest thing I've noticed is that the guys seem to love playing for these guys.
This is the first step: change the culture around.
The winning will follow in time.

Im guessing it'll take at least half the season to implement Luke's system....

Re: LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!
One of the only reasons I'm still pretty optimistic about the season is the new coaching staff. Our "big" signings have pretty much been headscratchers from Mozgov to Yi, but I have to think that they do have a game plan and that our signings are in connection with that game plan.
On the other hand, all this praise that our players have for Luke must sting quite hard to the tank commander.

Re: LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!
Coby Karl (George's son, used to play for us) is the new D-Fenders head coach. Casey Owens promoted to assistant coach and advance scout on Luke's staff

Re: LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!
Coby was an assistant coach at Westchester high, so a pretty rapid promotion. Other than Kupchak, the entire coaching and management staff of the Lakers is run by second generations of famous NBA families. We have Jerry Buss' kids, Jerry West's kids, Bill Walton's kid and now George Karl's son.

We're all about that nepotism...
They're all entitled, spoiled brats who never did anything in life... Can we call them all 'Jimbo,' hike up our pants and shake our fat little fists at them?

I do think there's something to coaching though where if you're a coach's/former pro's son, you've simply been taught the game at a more advanced level than most first gen players. It's a bit of a craft.
Having said that, for every Kobe/Coby, there's a Bryan Colangelo and 6 Buss children.
