Nylon Calculus said this about Hoiberg and Wade:

http://nyloncalculus.com/2016/07/08/chicago-bulls-backcourt-rajon-rondo-dwyane-wade/

A common misconception though is that Fred Hoiberg’s preferred offense is a pace-and-space attack predicated on shooting the three. In his first season as Bulls head coach, in what was deemed by many a colossal failure, Hoiberg’s team was 24th in the NBA in 3PAr. Granted, there were times that players admittedly weren’t running the offense, instead settling back to Tom Thibodeau’s style, or the continuation of the “iso-ball” tug of war between Butler and Rose.

But this reliance on the three-point shot seems to be overblown even when looking back to Hoiberg’s Iowa State days. Below is each year Hoiberg was at Iowa State, the corresponding winning percentage for his team and their national rank in four shooting categories: eFG%, 3PT%, 2PT%, and 3PAr.

The most successful Iowa State teams excelled not from long range, but from within the arc where they used high screens and quick offense to get open midrange looks. In 2014 and 2015, when the Cyclones won at least 74% of their games, their best finish in 3PT% was 84th while their best finish in 3PAr was 65th. During that same period, they finished ninth and 11th respectively in 2PT FG%.

My expextations for Wade are that if we get a non-Cleveland route in the Eastern Conference playoffs then I think he can will us past the second round.

He has the cast around him to do that.

It's very cruical that we avoid the Cavs till the ECF. I don't really see too many good teams in the East. The only other threats are Boston, Toronto and Atlanta.

It's crucial for 2017 that we make the ECF and make a solid showing. And then recruit 2 max guys. We need to make sure we stay healthy, develop chemisty and avoid the 4,5 and 8 seed.

Huh lol? I hope you're right but I don't see it. The goal should be 50 wins and an ECF appearance to lure CP3 or something next summer. With Wade and Jimmy we could definitely advance.

The goal should just be building team chemistry and good habits. If you lock that down, Wade can carry us to the ECF. Lets not wear Wade down for meaningless wins in December.

Mirotic can't average 11 points, 4 rebounds while shooting 40% again this year for us to make a run.

I agree but I do believe regular season success will help in recruiting and also give guys confidence headed into the playoffs. The first seed is on lock but the 2nd seed gives us the best chance of making it to the ECF.

1st seed isn't a lock I mean Cleveland barely beat out Toronto last year.

“I didn’t make it happen. Dwyane left and so the buck really stops here,” Riley said. “I’m not trying to fall on the sword for anybody. I have great regret that I didn’t put myself in the middle of it and immerse myself totally in the middle of it, get in a canoe and paddle to the Mediterranean if I had to.”

Riley wasn’t in New York when the Heat last met with Wade on July 6, only a few hours before the 12-time NBA All-Star announced that he was picking Chicago. That last meeting was handled by Heat managing general partner Micky Arison and CEO Nick Arison, and in that session, the team’s offer of a $40 million, two-year deal was raised slightly — though not to the level of what Chicago was able to pay.

Riley said he believes Wade’s decision wasn’t fueled by money, but rather something else.

“That is where we both failed … I more than he, because he’s the asset, he’s the star, he’s the face of the franchise,” Riley said. “I should have done everything that I could have verbally in trying to change his mindset to mine, a big picture, a better picture, or one that I thought would help him.”

Whether that would have worked is unknown, and irrelevant now anyway. Wade went home to Chicago, and for the Heat it’s now time for the aftermath that follows whenever there’s a superstar-level goodbye. Riley has been through it plenty of times before in Miami, whether it was Alonzo Mourning or LeBron James or Shaquille O’Neal or Brian Grant or Eddie Jones.

This, Riley said, is different.

“We’ve had a tough summer,” he said.

We would have to get 60 wins at the least to beat out Cleveland next year in my opinion. They'll be better than last year with this added confidence. 60 probably doesn't even do it. 1st seed would definitely be awesome but we're looking at putting together 2 new huge pieces to a team who are all alphas as Rondo said so it's going to take a little time for things to get rolling. The big 3 in Miami started 9-8 and they were much better than these 3 but I will say this big 3 has a much better supporting cast.

Also you never answered me earlier, is there a chance Wade wears 7 next year? It would be weird seeing him in any number other than 3 but I guess it's already about as weird as it gets seeing him in a new jersey.

I don't buy what Riley's selling. He's too clever to make such a mistake, and while now its the right thing to say that he regrets it, to repair the relationship so Wade can be on good terms with the org after his career, I think Riley was ready to rebuild the Heat in a new direction, and didn't want to give Wade a Kobe-like golden parachute contract that would cripple his team for a while. That's what the inklings from people surrounding the Heat suggest.

If this was 5 years ago, even 3 years ago, he would have gotten it done.

I think in 2008 there was rumors we would trade the #1 pick (Rose) for Wade and Wade would wear #7 for some reason.
