Pat stated that Tyler Johnson was willing to take a different deal from the Heat but when the Heat talked to him, TJ said he could not go back on his word with Brooklyn. Pat went in depth and made himself look bad, so I do not see how you can say he is being cowardly.
Tyler's contract *now* doesn't enter into it. If we had the money for him in 3 years, then it was there for Wade too. All Wade wanted originally was a 3rd year. We could have given it to him, the same way that we are going to give it to Tyler in 3 years. We also had the choice of stretching McRoberts.
What I'm saying is cowardly is trying to frame this as some misunderstanding, inability to speak to Wade etc (when he hasn't actually even spoken to him yet - composing an email, oh really, give me a break!) It's a bitch move. If you are going to do something, just own it already. Don't be a wuss about it. It's disrespectful to everyone.
For whatever reason they made the decision that Wade was out. They made a tough choice. Maybe it was brinksmanship that went awry, but the circumstances don't matter. If he was in, he was in. He wasn't in anymore.
Basically you just do not believe him. And have your own idea how it went down regardless what Pat said.
That's not really a useful response. Can we argue about the points rather than make assumptions how we *feel*? For a while, I also bought the FO story, but I have reached my conclusion based on the other actions that we've taken.
1. Do you disagree that the money we just promised Tyler was approximately what Wade wanted? It's about the same.
2. Do you disagree that the money we spend on McRoberts (Riley brought up his name as an asset during the press conference - as a piece that helped build the team) could have been used to keep Wade now? Even if you can't trade him, he could have been stretched, but it would meant admitting that Riley erred.
I think that's a factor (<-
this is an opinion, not a fact, but it's the only one here.) Every thing else is a factual statement.
We had the money. We chose not to do it.
All I'm saying is that he should have owned the choice rather than saying it was phone tag or whatever lame excuse he is making. I should have paddled my canoe over to speak with him sounds
really bizarre, especially when he STILL hasn't spoken with the man he worked with for THIRTEEN years. You are being very generous in my opinion, but that says more about you being a good person. I'm an old cynic. Sorry.
