Yeah highly suspicious about specifics of the trade packages but the broad strokes are what's most interesting (i.e. Pursuing Westbrook AND Griffin).

Also, Deveney mentioned the FA angle on the podcast with Jay King, and I thought that was a great point.

Yea, I hope this happens. I'm not going to get my hopes too high :D .

And I guess B Bass would sign with us for the vet min. He loves it here, the fans like him and honestly he's a likeable guy, played for the team at a somewhat rebuilding stage, but a very serviceable bench big, who can do a little of everything.
Good assessment:

FWIW, I have no sources directly with the Celtics. I believe others here do, but I do not. And no, that is not a CYA move. I really don't.

It's not that, it's both the Brooklyn picks, Smart, and Jaylen. Need to keep Jaylen and one of the other assets.

For two top 10 players in the league, you do it every single time. Every single time.

Agreed, but have you heard any indication of whether Westbrook would so a 1 year extension (a la that one article that showed how he could get good money doing that) or Griffin would agree to pick up his Player Option (or not execute his ETO, I can't remember which he has)?

The alternative of trade nothing, draft top 3 again and sign Blake or Westbrook as FA is looking pretty good too. In that scenario you have last year's core plus IT, Horford, Max FA plus a developing future of Smart, Brown, and let's say Giles.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

It's not about getting better players, about keeping trade flexibility. It took Cleveland a year and a half of playing Twister to fix their roster problems, and in the end they never really did.

CSNNE said no big deals are in the works. Then again, they said nothing was happening in the days leading up to getting KG.

If you post it on Twitter, don't tie it back to me please. If you do, this will be the last time I will post anything like this on this board.

And that way you can credit yourself. :)

Get Westbrook AND Griffin without giving up either Bradley or Crowder? Seems tough to believe we'd be able to keep one of those guys, let alone both.

But if so...

Westbrook
Bradley
Crowder
Griffin
Horford
and Thomas off the bench
:droop:

That's fair. You would think with all this smoke there would eventually be fire. I'm sure you've been told rumors before, has there ever been a situation like this where you kept hearing the same information/rumours for something that never ended up happening?

Super interesting stuff Smitty.

And zero chance that this BS produces a winner. It's one injury away from a bust!

And Griffin could end up being another Raef LaFrentz.

No, but I am very new at this. The only two things I was rock solid on that happened were the Durant stuff and the Magic thinking very little of Tobias Harris and regretting the contract they gave him.

Oh and I got the Sullinger stuff first, but that was just a matter of checking the transaction wire before anyone else.

Agreed. There's no need to worry about assets and young prospects when you can make a deal to become an instant contender. You win titles with stars. This deal puts us in strong contention to make the finals. Why wait 3-4 years for that when we don't have to.

Hard to argue with that, but being blinded by star power is dangerous.

For one thing, '17 may not have a Griffin, but it'll be a Westbrook at worst..

Guys, no offense, but this rumor makes no sense at all. OKC dumping Westbrook, totally understandable. They almost have to rebuild. But it makes zero sense from the Clips' standpoint. The only way this rumor makes sense is if this is actually a three-way deal bringing Russ to the Clips and Blake to Boston and picks to OKC. The Clippers are behind GSW obviously but they're still a win-now team with three big stars. Chris Paul will bolt if they deal Blake for anyone who isn't at least as good. And Russ is one of the few guys who fits that description. It'd be an odd backcourt, but Russ is really a 2 anyway. Just think: why would LAC trade for Amir or even Jaylen Brown? They need to win right now.
