Marcus Morris Appreciation thread.

Post#1 » by zeebneeb » Mon Jul 18, 2016 8:17 pm

This thread is to extol the virtues of who I believe is our least talked about, and most under appreciated player, Marcus Morris. First, some highlights!

Marcus Morris is the teams second best defender, and is the go-to guy when the Pistons need some offense. When he is down on the low block he is a handful and always seems to get it done. He is like a mini-version of Rasheed, complete with his three point shooting on display in this clip;(6 threes in the first half!)

When Marcus Morris first arrived here, we as fans had little to no expectations of him being any sort of player, or starter but after this season, his first to just play with no limitations, really showed who he is, and what he can do. He is also my favorite type of player in terms of his edge. He doesnt take any crap from anyone;

And he will knock someone on their ass when need be;

Marcus also elevated his game in the playoffs putting up damn near all-star numbers in the Cavs series;

PPG-17.8
RPG-3.3
APG-2.5
FG%-46.8
3P%-38.9
FT%-87.0

Marcus is a tough, gritty player with a complete offensive game, and a damn fine defensive game as well. How we got him for so cheap still amazes me. I dont think Stanley will be taking his starting spot anytime soon as Morris is that glue guy in the starting unit, and can get his own. Maybe play Johnson at the 4 and use his strength.

In any event, great job Marcus, and Stan your the man for grabbing him when everyones head was sideways.

Cant wait for next year.

I love Marcus, he's quickly becoming my favorite player in the league. And to think we only gave up a second rounder for him!

What would Marcus be worth on the open market this summer? $15-18M a year for sure - right?

Man am I happy we made that trade to get him.

Very rarely would I say this about any player, but by god do I hope we keep him for the entirety of his contract. What a get by Bower and SVG.

The biggest surprise with Morris last season was his defense. That had never been a strong suit for him but he did really well on that side of the ball for Detroit. Offensively Marcus was pretty much what you would expect, but that's a good thing considering just how much his role expanded. Some guys just aren't built to play a lot of minutes but it's obvious Morris can. I think they will come down a bit somewhat with Johnson likely getting a larger role but there's a lot of combinations the team can throw out at forward with those two and Harris. Leuer too.

Even though Granger was cut getting Morris and Bullock for a future 2nd round pick was an absolute steal in hindsight. If you remember the vitriol towards Marcus from Suns fans it makes the deal working out for the Pistons that much more satisfying. 8-)

We've needed a guy like him since Rasheed left.

Not to mention his strong defence and his surprising offensive season.

He's like a very light Paul Pierce with better D. He gets to his spot and is deadly, he was the heart of the team along with KCP last season.

Man the way he shot the 3 pointer in the 2nd half last season was crazy, it was like he couldn't' miss every game.

I saw him grow as a potential 3 and D player in HOU to now the mini-Sheed player he is today.

I had no idea his post fadeaway and handles were reliable. The biggest shocker is probably like others mentioned, is his defense. It's not otherworldly by any means, but he gets into people's faces and does mostly the right things on that end. Bodying, shadowing to the help, and being a handful.

On top of that, with the cap and how others are spending money, his contract may be our biggest tradeable asset we have. It is so friendly to the new cap that it's highway robbery at this point.

There was that 2 week span where he was probably the best shooter in the NBA not named Curry.

Morris was easily my most entertaining Piston not named Drummond last season. He obviously had nights were he was a ghost and didn't show up. But, hey, we got more than what we paid for. And now, he's criminally underpaid.

I'll openly admit , i thought he was going to be a backup SF at best. He arguably was a best player last year

:lol: its like almost f* up to keep paying him this much. One thing that i dont' understand is why we don't feed mook early and often. when he has big games, he's usually starting off pretty hot. When he has decent games its normally because he dissappears in the first qt or half and comes alive in the 2nd half

I was definitely not a fan of his before he got to Detroit, but he's more than won me over.
He brought great defence, a well rounded offensive game and most importantly he was a great team mate. My biggest concern when he came over was his attitude problems, but he has been completely professional.
Great pick up by SVG. That doesn't even include his ridiculously low contract.

Best PF contract in the NBA

Similar attitude as Rasheed (also lazy at times and loves to jack up shots like Sheed as well)

My favorite player on our team by far

He's my second fav player,but he is making up ground in that area.
Loves what he brings,he would of fit in with either the bad boys or going to work pistons teams.

i wonder if KCP and Marcus ever talked about when Keef said KCP had no heart :lol:

Between the happy dancers, stone cold killers and a little in between, you gotta love the mixed personalities on this team.
