Maybe this is because I'm a fan of exactly one team in one sport, but I don't see how any other Suns fan could think PJ starts this season. Even if TJ were injured, I would think we start Bled/Knight/Booker.

My answer to this is easy - SEE LAST SEASON. PJ has been horrible going back well before last season and yet he's our incumbent started. So, despite a change in coaching, it wouldn't shock me to see the same dumb decision made again. He had no business being a starter last season and yet, he not only started he was 3rd in minutes per and led the team in total time on the court.

I don't usually talk about him often because I always end up in an argument when I do but I think he's been perhaps the worst regular starter in the NBA for 2 full seasons now. Everyone raves about his effort, I think it's overrated and overstated. On a real team he'd be the specialist brought in for 12 to 15 minutes a game and in that role, he'd be a great asset. As a starting small forward, he's an anchor.

He's not quite the worst starting SF, at least according to RPM, coming in at 24th, one of the last of the top 3rd or so to actually have a positive impact. Based on that, looking at some of the players at 25, 36 and 38 you can see some overrated players.

[ Two years is loooooong time in the NBA, so let's stop pushing this FO to give up on young assets prematurely. Archie has an opportunity to be a free agent at 23 years old. His career is far from dead if he only gets bench minutes in Phoenix for the rest of his time here.

I always circle back to saying this when this board brings up the "young guys aren't going to get enough playing time" argument. The vets "holding these guys back" are 31 year old P.J. Tucker, 31 year old Jared Dudley, 33 year old post-acl tear Leandro Barbosa, and 33 year old Tyson Chandler. No one on that list is a superstar that demands playing time. The fact is, if our young guys can't beat these guys out, they're probably just not that good.

I know that's a startling revelation for many Suns fans, but you seem to be the type that understands a hyped 18 year old doesn't always turn into Lebron James.

I miss the days where you preached patience Frank.

My patience has run thin with this administration. Good point on the vet/kid playing time debate. Take heed youthers.



I really think the best thing for Goodwin is getting playing time, and the best place for that does not appear to be on this squad. There is no shame in playing professional BBall in Europe to hone skills. A couple years there and if he is all that, he'll be back in the NBA. Yes, we 'control' him, but the front office hasn't exactly been behind him 100% in their recent moves. Hard to imagine much love there if Arch is pining it with DNPs.

Well naturally we'd be playing on ~60 foot hoops to compensate for the change in strength of the gravitational field, otherwise everyone (except probably still Duds ) would be rim rockers

An almost complete lack of options? Tucker started for us last year and with Tele and Leuer gone, we're down to either starting Dudley or throwing one of the rookies in there. Although, personally I'm hoping that Warren is given a chance at the spot. But Ryan did say in an interview that Dudley would likely begin the season as our starting power forward.

Yeah I'm just going off of what McDonough said. We know Bledsoe is the starter at PG, and we know Dudley is the starter at PF.

I suppose every other position is up for grabs, but given that Warren is recovering from injury, I think it's likely that Tucker starts the season as the starter at SF, and while I would hope Len could beat out Chandler in training camp, I'm just penciling it Chandler as the starter by default.

The foot. It's a broken foot. It's July and he's running. I don't see why TJ wouldn't be ready for regular season. Given that, is there any good reason, from a basketball perspective, team perspective, or otherwise, why PJ would start over TJ?

There's also the matter of Knight being a poor wing defender, and you'd want to pair him with a guy who won't hurt you on that end. That's another point for Tucker, not Warren.

I think Monroe is getting targeted by the Spurs , he is flawed but could be their Kanter off the bench spelling Pau. I would honestly quit watching this team if Gay/Waiters ever don a Suns uni

Agreed - and since Knight's a chucker, you'd want to pair him more with defense and less with offense, since he's unlikely to share the ball, and you especially don't want to pair him with a guy who gets a lot of his points moving off the basketball.

Which I guess brings me to, Why do you think Knight will start, especially given Watson's repeated statements about Knight being a prototypical sixth man and JD's statements about helping Knight adjust to such a role?

I guess I just don't get why so many assume that our coaching staff will do stupid things.
