Jazz fan asks how good is G Hill?

Post#1 » by Hoops Addict » Wed Jul 20, 2016 3:58 am

Jazz fan....coming to your board in peace.

How good is Hill? I see he can be explosive and shoots 40% from 3....over 50% in playoffs.

Jazz have no good point guards, its our kryptonite so any good play could elevate the team a lot.

Jazz D is top 5 with the Frenchman Gobert with his 7'9' reach. Jazz offense is anemic....a good point guard makes us a playoff team.

p.s. Jazz have Hayward, the Indiana boy.....and Trey Lyles Indiana HS player of the year. Much love to the other small market team Indiana. :D

Hill is a terrific Player, really underrated. Your Defense is going to be amazing with him in the Backcourt. But don't expect him to be a game changer on offense, as you said, he can shoot the 3 but he is not very aggressive on the offensiv end, at least he wasn't with the Pacers (except for that year where PG was out).

As I don't really have a Team in the West I am definitely rooting for the Jazz, a really interesting Team you got there

He's a guard. He can play the one or the two. He plays offense and defense. He's not lightning fast but he can run. Bird wants to play a different style but few of us think the "home town hero" was the problem.

Very solid contributor, his positives far outweigh any negatives, which are few. He has the tendency to disappear on the offensive end, which isn't always a bad thing because of his willingness to defer to the hot hand. Sometimes, like when Paul George was out, he really showed what he was capable of on the offense. I think Vogel gave him more of the green light because the team lacked any other quality perimeter options.

He's a good on-ball defender against most point guards, but tends to have some difficulty staying in front of the really quick ones. His handles suffice and he's a solid stand and shoot player. I could see Exum and him coexisting together quite well. He's a heady, mature player who won't cause any problems for your coaching staff.

I'd say, think if him as an ultimate glue guy, or an elite role player. He's neither really a PG, nor a SG. He'll also do whatever is game planned of him, and he's kind of an ultimate teammate. Whether we asked him to defer and teach Lance Stephenson how to control a game, or to defer and put the ball in PG's hands to let him become a star, or to take over as lead ball handler the year PG was injured and Lance was gone, he'll do it without any arguing. He's definitely more of a 3 and D kind of guard. He can slash, but he's not an explosive attacker of the basket. He's a really smart, heady, and solid defender, using his body to get in front, and long arms to annoy people. However, as others said, he can be outraced by small, super speedy PG's (Teague used to get him bad, but he did ridiculously well against Kyle Lowry in this past playoffs).

Basically, he'll be a solid asset where ever you play him. You can put him as your starting PG, but have Hayward handle the ball with no issues. You can have him as your off guard with no issues. You can bring him off the bench with no issues, though you'll continually want him to play more. He's good off screens, and great in the corners.

George Hill may not be the flashy point guard everybody wanted to watch, but he's consistently serviceable. I wish your team and George Hill the best. I hope he comes back to Indiana as that "veteran" point guard every young team needs.

I have also seen him guard James Harden and Jimmy Butler, and do a pretty reasonable job at it.

That isn't something every point guard (or Jeff Teague) is gonna be able to do.
