Perhaps Bird is also worried about the matchup problems Indy could face with a Teague/Ellis backcourt?

How reliable is this source? It doesnt sound too far out of the realm of possibility, but it also sounds like something that anyone could have hypothesized without much actual knowledge of the FO or theiractions.

While I personally like Steve Kyler, you are right, the way it's presented is a bit shady. Either way, my main intention here was to get a conversation going to keep activity up.

Re: Report- Pacers shopping Ellis; finding little interest
I do think he has some kind of credibility build up over the years and would it be a surprise?
PG will be crying for defensive help when he is on the court together with Brooks, Ellis, Young, Jefferson.
Teague and Brooks both need the ball in their hands so unless Monta is going to make huge strides as an of the ball player, he's going to become less useful to us.
He already is with all the others teams though, so we might be stuck with him. If even the Kings don't want him, you know how low his trade value is

Re: Report- Pacers shopping Ellis; finding little interest
Not surprised at all, though I kinda like having Monta Ellis in the Pacers' rotation. He's a guy who reads situations well, but I would agree too that he needs the ball in his hands before really making a play. Though last year's pairing with George Hill was good, I don't think it is going to work well with Teague. I am not thinking of a complete disaster, but my feeling is that Teague might get paired with a spot up shooter more often. But then again, I like having Monta, when Teague is sitting.
With the Pacers' current build-up, Lance Stephenson at the 2 would make more sense, I think.

Steve Kyler pops up a lot in NBA talks. As for Monta, I don't believe he has much trade value but I do believe that he can become our Jamal Crawford off the bench, sixth man of the year is within his reach.
I would rather go with this lineup if we can't get a starting level SG in here:
Teague
Miles
George
Young
Turner
Just think about it, Gay, Monroe, Ellis all on the block. I would take Monroe over Jefferson, I would take Gay over Ellis. That tells me atleast in theory, theory that Bird recognizes talent; neither the Bucks or Kings want a package around Ellis.

Re: Report- Pacers shopping Ellis; finding little interest
I actually liked Ellis' Defense at times, well he gambles and gets a lot of steals and he can still stay in front of certain guys, if he really wants. But now that GHill and Mahinmi are gone, I don't think Monta is a good fit in the starting lineup...I hope he comes of the bench as a Sixth Man, or Bird is somehow able to trade him for a 3D wing.

So, Steve Kyler is a guy that puts a lot out there, but doesn't break anything himself. He repeats a lot of stuff and is kind of like the Huffington Post of sports twitter guys; he aggregates a lot of national and local guys stuff and then repeats it. As such, he's way off on a lot, and sometimes, he's dead on, and early. It's mostly because he'll kind of repeat anything from anyone that is remotely trusted. However, sometimes he can misread what he thought he saw.

i dont care what these national dipshits write up. truthfully ellis off bench makes sense but not so certain ellis is the whoopin boy level player. it was not but one season removed and vividly recall ellis carrying the talent depleted mavs to 7 wiht houston.
ellis has heart. he is long removed from golden state days as me first type player. ellis can still play. elllis wants to win. lance wants to get paid. lance is not rollin back to indy. bird addresed and confirmed.
excluding GS i like pacers chances with anyone right now. that includes LeFlops NBA market driven garbage.
Bird knows who the roadblock will be. long time before trade deadline to make a deal. Miles Turner will BEAST this season.
Ellis a former Warrior would be an X factor vs GS. Not to mention... Ellis' contact is very well structured for todays nba. its essentially MLE level. not exactly worth obsessin all summer over.

Re: Report- Pacers shopping Ellis; finding little interest
and I think it is clear that Bird and Mac aren't worried about the size of the back court. they brought in Teague and signed Brooks. if they thought Ellis needed to play with a big guard, they would have gotten someone bigger than Brooks. they must feel comfortable playing Ellis with Teague or Brooks or Young. with our roster, it doesn't matter whether Ellis starts or comes off the bench, he'll still be paired with a short point guard.

Yeah this really seems like he is just parroting all of the speculation that Ellis can't work in the lineup we have. Also the rumors that Gay is on the block and they have no interest in Ellis (which the reports say nothing about Bird even engaging Sacramento on that) merely based on them chasing him last year.
I just don't see an Ellis trade for numerous reasons:
- We won't get back a player near as good as him, even with all of his faults
- His contract is more than fine and won't hurt us going forward
- He was (surprisingly) a leader last year and we let two of those go this offseason in Hill and Mahinmi
- We can't change literally the entire roster each year
- Bird would probably like to see how he starts the year when not coming off of surgery
- Even with the signing of Brooks, he's probably our 2nd best ballhandler
- He's probably our 2nd best passer as well
- He does fit the style Bird wants to play and generally excelled when we did play faster
- He's an offensive minded guy who played in a pretty bad offense last year
- Barring a major injury or some random huge dropoff, his value really can only get better
