KOBEs letter to 17 year old KOBE

Post#1 » by LAKESHOW » Thu Jul 21, 2016 3:11 pm

You will come to understand that you were taking care of them because it made YOU feel good, it made YOU happy to see them smiling and without a care in the world — and that was extremely selfish of you. While you were feeling satisfied with yourself, you were slowly eating away at their own dreams and ambitions. You were adding material things to their lives, but subtracting the most precious gifts of all: independence and growth.

That was a great read. Kobe as usual is a different thinker in a good way.

Kobe puts both the "all athletes are dumb" and the "you need college to be highly intelligent" arguments to shame.

He has always been a man with both deep perspective and the articulance to share it.

Purpose is probably for young people reading this not to make the same mistakes, and approach life in a more mature manner.

Dear younger self,

don't be a basketball fan, so you won't have to share in the ups and downs of a basketball team winning or losing. There are 30 teams, and only one team can win, so there will be more losing than winning.

This is a great article by Kobe.
Very wise words and if you read between the lines, it not only applies to young athletes but to our own lives, specially those of us who have children etc...
Great read!
