Re: The latest rumors/news after today's signings
If we can secure Griffin without including Crowder, or a Nets pick it would be ideal.
Then we can afford to lose Crowder for Westbrook, cause we can keep Brown and have Pierce come off the bench. We also have Green at 2/3.
Crowder, Nets '18 pick and pieces for Westbrook.
I hope also we keep 2/3 of Bradley,Smart, Rozier. I think one of Smart/Rozier would go, maybe even Bradley. Unless Zeller can still get sign ans traded.

Do NOT underestimate this part at all. The ownership group wants to win and they want to win NOW. They were impatient with the 1 year the team was out of the playoffs.
Wowzer, I thought Wyc was relatively uninvolved.
Involved but I don't see him rushing to pull the trigger on a bad deal:

Everyone defines "rip us off" in a different way. Just keep that in mind.

Bad deal is a relative term.
And that quote is eseentially just him speaking on behalf of Danny. The "we" is Danny in that sentence.

He already has an NBA body and still has room to fill out a little more. If his jumper gets consistent, wow. I think he's actually similar to, but in many ways better, than Crowder. They are both tough defenders who like to get up in to guys. Crowder is a bit better rebounder, but Brown has a better handle and is a better passer. Outside shot was shaky for Crowder too.
That is all a long way of saying I'm not sure if the Celtics need both guys. Eventually I think one of them will be elsewhere so that both can grow.
How do you think the Celtics would rank Jaylen Brown, the '17 nets pick, and the '18 nets pick as assets?
No idea to be honest. Anything I would put out there would be my opinion only. If that is what you want I think it is either in the order you have listed or swap Brown and 17 BRK.
I do know that many around the league don't think the 18 BRK pick has nearly as much value as most around here do. A lot of teams think BRK will be ok (not good, but not horrible) this year. And they think in 2017-2018 with a TON of cap space, they could jump up big time. And a few other East teams might be on downswings at that point as well.
I talked with a lot of people who said now is the time to trade the 2018 BRK pick. And I talked with slightly less who said that the 2017 BRK pick might not have the locked in value that some think it does either.
My personal ranking at the moment is:
1. '17 pick
2. Jaylen Brown
3. '18 pick
I was just curious if you got a general sense of WHY certain sources were thinking Brown would or would not be involved. Celtics are really high on him so don't want to trade him or teams just prefer Crowder/BRK picks and Celts say then Jaylen Brown is definitely off the table.

I assumed as much (I think Wyc was a minor influence on the IT trade, Danny not being able to pass that up the main influence), and have said so for years on here only to be ridiculed with platitudes of "Wyc is awesome".
Not that you were saying otherwise, but it's good to hear confirmation of my suspicions that our ownership is all about winning now.
And although I say this as a criticism, there are reasons it does make sense: Brad possibly leaving sooner than we think being the most important one (imo).
15th always said the same FWIW.
I just want to hit on this last part:
The Celtics are in constant fear that Stevens will leave. And not for another NBA job. A ton of people, and I mean a TON, believe that he still wants to be in college. Many have gone as far to say "He's gone the minute he wins an NBA title.".
A lot of people think Stevens is the guy that Coach K has already identified to leave him when he leaves Duke. Stevens still makes a point to be around the college game a lot and supposedly keeps tabs on everything that is happening in the college game, which is odd for an NBA coach who doesn't have personnel authority.
I personally think he's in Boston until they at least get a title. And then winning a title makes it hard for a lot of guys to leave. But continuing to be as competitive as possible is a factor. The Celtics (and I agree) think they have the best coach in the league that isn't Pop. They will do just about anything to keep him happy.

Doc seems to think he's done a great job managing assets based on his comments lol.

I'm ok giving up Jae or a BK pick for Griffin. Both would be ripping us off.

BKN pick for me. I love Jae, he is the heart and soul of this team.

Well, it's still more likely than not that a deal doesn't go down (because it always inherently is), but we don't actually know the full details and minutiae.
I wouldn't worry too much, although I was just criticizing Wyc, I have faith that we will make the correct choices this offseason whatever they may be. Danny is always playing the long game and maybe we just need to make a move to please Stevens.
And let's be real, Doc doesn't want the 17 or the 18. He doesn't give an actual **** about the future of that organization he just wants to win a chip.

Jae is my favorite player on the team and I love him off court as well.
If it's between him and either Brooklyn pick, I am shipping his ass the **** out.

Re: The latest rumors/news after today's signings
If Ainge gives up serious assets for a rental to keep a rich child happy or to hang on to a coach who *might* want to bail in some indeterminate amount of time, I'm out.
That said, I have serious doubts that he will. Is Wyc really going to force him out to bring in the next Billy "win now" King? Nothing has ever really given the impression that Wyc is doing anything besides mouthing off, signing checks, and sitting court side. Least of all the selection of Jaylen Brown--that was Danny ALL the way.
Re: Stevens, we've heard he's leaving since the minute he got here, but he just signed an extension well in advance of his first deal being up so....

2017 draft is looking great isn't it? Is there any foreshadowing on 2018 yet?

Hard to believe that he'd want to go back to college at all after just signing a massive extension a month ago.

So the new, hot rumors are that we haven't made a big trade yet but we might.

I am pessimistic about Griffin resigning. For this reason I will be upset if Nets pick included or Cs overpay in general. We can go after Griffin and Westbrook in free agency next year with no cost other than salary.

Less than 2017, but more than 2016.
